At 12k miles I just switched over to synthetic oil. Amsoil to be exact. I bought a case (12)for $70, a little too much money for me. I am going to change to mobile one when I use the amsoil up.

If you bought the SAE series, it is good for 1 year or 25,000 miles. If you only drove 12,000 miles in a year it would still be cheaper than $20.00 every 3000 miles oil changes. Amsoil becomes cost effective when you use it as intended (extended drains).

Good Lord, don't argue with the man, he knows of what he speaks! Besides, for 10 bucks as a Preferred Customer, you can buy all the Amsoil you want and stock up at less than Mobile 1 prices....I'm doing it myself![sm=smiley2.gif][sm=smiley20.gif]

Thanks for the kind words!

I have been following a Mobil 1 vs Amsoil comparison and the results are looking good for Amsoil:

5000 mile oil analysis comparison

Amsoil vs Mobil 1
Al 3 5 (40% Higher wear metals)
Chr 1 2 (50% Higher wear metals)
Iron 12 23 (47.8% Higher wear metals)
Lead 3 8 (62.5% higher wear metals)
Tin 0 5 (5 times as high!)
Vis 67.6 58.5

Seems as this really IS an independent test for a change. So far, I'd give the edge to Amsoil, but it's pretty close. I'll be interested in seeing the results as the mileage adds up...[sm=smiley23.gif]
