Default Governor

I'm f*cking pissed off. i was racing a neon, and i doing well until i hit 110ish and the governor kicked in. now i have no power until i hit at most 105 which means i just lost 5 mph well he continued to gain. this happened numerous time until eventually he ended up in front of me because of my governor. now i have alot of power left, the 2.7 is impressive at those speeds. i need a cheap *** way of bypassing the governor. i actually want to reset it to another number instead of get rid of it if possible. my tires are T rated which means they can handle supposedly 118mph. they are the Goodyear assurance triple tread. Think they can do 120? not that it matters i have no way of changing ti yet. so what do you suggest to help my dilemma. thanks in advance for the help.

Don't move this to my section. and BTW it is a 2002 dodge intrepid SE 2.7L

toggle switch the speed sensor lead, when you get near the magic 110 number just cut it off, your speedo will read 0 but you'll still be going bawls to the walls

I am not sure exactlly what you are saying Nick. Are you saying that with your ATX that you don't get power in final gear until 105MPH? a switch between the spedo and the PCM will fix that problem. I don't know your car specificaly, but that is a general answer. If you want a specific answer you should should post in the intrepid section, they are the ones that know the answer.

casper, what he's saying is that he's haulin butt all the way to 110 or so when the govenor kicks in. at 105 the engine kicks back in. he just wants to know a way to keep the govenor from kicking in and a toggle switch that kills the output of the speed sensor should do it.

I would wire it up between the output of the sending unit and the computer, and if you would like to know how your pushing the limits of your tires, you'll find out when the tred seperates

Thats right. I am not sure where the speed sensor is on your car, but it should be somewhere on the tranny.

Keep in mind that the speed sensor adds input to the ecu and control shift points, abs, fuel supply ect... cutting the speed sensor out of the loop can cause problem such as a check engine light caused by the ecu not seeing the signal, possible tranny malfunction ect..

a link to one way to do it.

I would assume that if you only used it when you were racing it would not cause any problems. If you put it on a switch and just flip the switch when you wanna go above the limiter, you will be fine. Its not gonna do any damage to the motor at all.
