rear end howling noise

Default rear end howling noise

i have a 1998 r/t, every time i am coasting and give it a little gas it sounds like my transfure case is howling? i think it may be the yoke pin.
anybody have an idea?

You might want to chek the fluid
you might be low.

When my 98 Durango had a howling sound in the rear it turned out to be a toasted rear differential.

Check the fluids for metal particles, if you find some then you know where the problem is.

That's usually not a good sign. Have someone check the backlash on the gears. And along the lines of what 89Daytona said, the mechanic might find some metal particles while he checks the wear pattern & condition of the gears.
