Default Switching to synthetic after 100k?

My new truck has 100k on it. Is it a bad idea to switch to synthetic? I have heard from some people that you should only do it under 25k or you will have more chances at leaks etc. Are they just blowing smoke? Thanks.

Depends on who you wanna listen to. The syn oil folks will tell you to switch, but obviously, dino oil hasn't been bad for your vehicle.......!!!![&:]

As long as there are no current leaks, it should be just fine. Even if there is a slight oil leak, switching to synthetic will turn a trickle into a river. The earlier you switch, after 5,000 miles, the better off you are.

I have no leaks right now. I ended up going with Valvolines new Max Life full synthetic for vehicles over 75k miles.

Valvoline?[sm=smiley3.gif][sm=smiley5.gif][sm=smiley21.gif][sm=smiley11.gif][:'(][:@] That's just my opinion. I know of plenty of people that live by and love their Valvoline, but my personal experience with it has been very, very bad. Right after switching from Castrol GTX to Valvoline in my Roadrunner, I ended up spinning a rod bearing or two and loosing all the oil. I had used it in my '88 Shelby Z after I had the engine rebuilt, only because that is the brand they used and I wanted to insure that they couldn't try and deny any warranty claims. I had to return it for a new head and turbo within the first few months and it never held the oil pressure that it use to. I couldn't wait until it reached 5,000 miles, so I could switch it over to Mobil 1 synthetic reguardless of any warranty. After the switch to Mobil 1 I never had another engine or turbo related problem. This however is just my experiences with Valvoline, and it wasn't their synthetic.

I have always used Valvoline, and have used Max Life in 2 other cars now (non synthetic) with great results. My dad is a mechanic and has always used it as well. I was going to go Mobil 1, but they were out of 10w30. I saw the Max Life FS and figured it would work great as well. I will give you an update after I spend some time with it.

Mobil 1 is good stuff as is Amsoil. I wouldn't run anything else in my SRT-4.....[&:]

Has anyone tried the supertech synthetic oil. I seem to have good results when I initially put it in, but then I notice it doesn't keep the oil pressure. Is there a inexpensive oil but, with the same qualities of mobile 1? thanks
