Help!! the ABS and Brake light stay on in my 2000 Dodge Ram
[&:] The ABS and Brake lights stay on in my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD with 318 and auto trans. It does not have ABS and the brakes work just fine. The truck has 68,000 miles on it. Sometimes the speedometer stops working briefly and the transmission doesn’t want to shift gears when it should, but then it will start working and shifting normally, but the ABS and brake light are always on no matter what. So far, I have replaced the speed sensor at the Trans and there has been no change. There has not been any check engine light so far only the ABS and brake light. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
That is odd, because that bulb should be deleted unless you have ABS, lol. Are you sure you don't have ABS?
Have you by chance had any maintenance done on any components of the brakes at all? Maybe the brake system needs to be bled, regardless, you shouldn't have an ABS light if you don't have ABS....hmmm. Check to make sure that you don't have ABS, there are at least two tell tale signs that I know of....a block with aluminum lines going to it in the engine bay connected to your brake booster or resevoir (I forget which, I'll look in the morning...my morning
), sometimes stating "ABS" and speed sensors on all four wheel hubs. Check all your fuses and finally, if you are very sure that you don't have ABS...remove the ABS light bulb because each of those indicators are only for whatever they represent and you don't need that bulb in there.
I still don't get why you have that bulb in there and why it lights up because most of the time, if you don't have "that" system, the circuit won't be completed to allow a bulb to come on.

My mistake, I do have ABS. I guess its the type without wheel sensors because there are no sensors at he wheels. There has been no brake work done on the truck since I purchased it new, no bleeding, or repairs of any kind. Do you think this has something to do with the ABS system, brakes or some sensor going crazy?
Here are pics, one is of the master cylinder area in the engine compartment and the other is of the lights with engine at idle.

The module for the ABS should be located under the drivers side "approx" midway. Its where a bunch of brake lines "branch" off. Check to make sure the connection hasnt unplugged.
Your key comment was that speedo sometimes quits. That indicates the speed sensor located at top of of rear end pumpkin has failed.
1 10mm socket, ratchet or wrench and $30 part from your local parts store and your good to go. Crawl under rear of truck, find wire going to top of rear end, unplug, unscrew the 1 bolt, carefully wiggle the old sensor out, reverse to install. Note: Plug MAY have red locking tab, that tab will slide about 1/8 to 1/4" one way or another with light pressure. Connector can then be removed.

I will try the rear diff sensor, thanks.

Had the same issue. Should be only one sensor on that truck on top of the pumpkin. Mine was a loose plug caused all my gauges to go out but the first symptom was intermitent brake/abs light and a jumpy spedometer when at idle.
Ah, ok....noted....trucks have ABS speed sensor(s) on pumpkin and not on all four wheels like cars
. Same general system with slight differences
.
Well, that could be why your ABS light is on Lapedr
. At least you know that you have ABS now.
