White Smoke???
i gotta 97 dodge avenger es...and recently my car has been blowing white smoke. it smells like rich gas, so i was wondering why it would be doing that. would the 02 sensor be going out, and if so is it hard to change?
all the help i could get would be appreiciated. thankx

The simplest thing would be someone overfilled with oil OR the PCV valve broke internally. PCV valve is usually located on one of the valve covers with a 3/8" vacuum hose attached. It relieves crankcase pressure and if broke will suck oil straight into the intake and smoke bad as you describe.
If not the above.... Could be a bad injector, bad head gasket(s), to worn out/stuck piston rings. Nothin cheap or DIY.

You need to do at the very least give a better description or at the very best do some troubleshooting to rule out the head gasket and hollar back.
White smoke literally billowing out the exhaust pipe like a factory chimney is almost certainly a head gasket. usually the exhaust smells like coolant- a little sweet. You can check this a number of ways- my preferred method is by compression test followed by a leakdown test on cylinder(s) that fail but often you don't even have to go that far- just removing the spark plugs may show coolant all over the plug or even in the problem cylinder itself. The car will usually run like crap because of the failed compression in at least one cylinder. Coolant in the oil and/or oil in coolant also confirms.

you might have blown a head gasket, i cant remember the exact procedure but if you check engine light is on, you can get an error code, one of the codes should say something about the pressure in the cylinders or something, and if the cylinder warped a little and some liquid got in their than you could blow a head gasket, and you would most likely get some white smoke.
