Wow ... 8.4 for a huge dually 3500 is fast !
Yea, the diesels nowadays can really get up and going. I read in some magazine they modified a dually CTD that could run with stock 911's.

Why not? Why won't a Duramax last as long as a Cummins? Why shouldn't aluminum be part of a deisel? Why would you buy a 1-ton deisel truck for speed?
Because a diesel motor is all about compression and heat. There are no spark plugs to ignite the fuel It spontaneously combusts in the chamber from the heat of the compressed air that it's injected into.

And last I checked, aluminum doesn't stand up to heat or pressure as well as cast & forged iron do.

Yup yup. In early May, I had to have one of my wheel studs torched off (long story, but at least I was refunded the cost!). I have the 15 inch aluminum wheels, and the dealership that did the torching told me it's not the best idea to keep that wheel, because heating aluminum can severly weakin it. (The picture shows the wheel after it was reinstalled after being torched off, notice the brown.)
After I left the dealer, I went to the wheel and tire shop that was just down the street, and they ordered me a new wheel.

Anyways, I wouldn't get a Duramax anyway... it's a Chevy.

The Cummins may not perfom as well unloaded as the Duramax and Powerstroke, but when they are loaded up (which is what diesels are supposed to be for) they leave the Ford and Chevy behind.

If this effects your dads opinion any, tell him the Duramax is built by Japanese (which it is)

Good point. I knew it, but didn't think about it until you said it.
