Default affect on mileage

What affect does adding a cold air intake have on gas mileage? I talking in terms that your driving style does not change. For example i have a 2004 4 cyl auto stratus coupe.

You will gain a few MPG. A CAI lets more air in than stock and it's colder air as well, both things that increase power and performance. More power means that the engine doesn't have to work as hard to get the job done, this is why it gets better fuel mileage.

I haven't seen an affect on my milage yet, but I have seem a difference in low mid range performance and in my Durangos RPMs. I used to cruise 60MPH at about 2000-2150 RPM and now I am at 1800-2000 pretty consistantly. I think that is the one place I have seen the most difference empirically. This tells me the truck is breathing better. Now to add a Magnaflow exhaust and get it breathing really well.

Still haven;t noticed a change for the better MPG wise. I noticed a more recognizeable change in the performance and in my RPM range dropping nearly 400 RPMs for a given speed vs before CAI. I think the benefit will be more pronounced with exhaust too.

You will not get any performance or mpg gain out of a intake. It's all lies, marketing and psychological affect.

Then why have hot rodders and racers been using this form of mod for decades? Basically a high rise manifold. Like Imentioned I didn't notice any MPG improvement but I deffiantely measured( note not guessed, not felt, imagined or devined)hthe rpm difference and there was no doubt that the low to mid range torque band smoothed out to boot.

So, when everyone puts on one of these intakes and gets another 1-2 MPG, runs quicker in the 1/4 mile and has more power showing up in dyno results (at least with the ones that have the access to a dyno) and can feel the difference, they are all just victims of false marketing and mass hallucinations.[sm=violin.gif][sm=bs.gif][sm=boink3.gif][sm=wakeup.gif]
