HELP!! Its not loud enough!
alright boys heres the deal. ive got a 83 3/4 power ram with 2 1/4 off the manifolds back to 2 18" cherry bombs with 2" back turned out behind the rear wheels. i like the sound quality i have now but i really want it to be louder. ive been looking into dynomax's race bullet mufflers. anybody know how loud they really are. i dont want to put bigger tail pipes on cuz i dont really care for that hollow mouse fartin in a tin can sound like the flowmasters have.
I hate to say this but, "rice" applies to V8 too. If it's not a performance upgrade, don't do it. Since this is a "how to make X louder" question.
This makes me think of folks asking how to make their sound system louder as to annoy the people around them.
So, 2.25 piping is a pretty stock size today. Going with bigger piping isn't going to make a hollow sound on it's own, going with cheaper piping poorly engineered cat, muffler and sometimes not having a resonator can. Like stated above..go with a straight flow...no cat, no resonator, or muffler...straight pipes at least 2.5". You will most likely get pulled over, but...you asked for it.

my friend has straight pipes on his 1994 Dodge Ram1500 5.9 for
almost 3 years and hasnt been pulled over yet but his neighbors hate
him even though he lives in the country
i am in the same deal
i want the loudest exhaust and i am hearing everybody
saying to get the shortest glass pack you can.
its that or the flowmaster 40 series
going 3in pipe no matter what

I've just cut the mufflers off both of mine. Ones a 4.7 and one's a 5.7 and both of them sound f***in awesome! I left the cat on, just started at the muffler and took off everything from there back. Very simple, very good sound. I live in a nicer part of town right now, and **knock on wood** haven't got sited yet. Been warned, but not sited. I've been runnin that way for the last 2 years too. It did kill my fuel mileage though, assuming the O2 sensors were toasted, but never did anything about it. Also brings on the engine light after a couple thousand miles with an emmision error.
Got a 97 ram with a new cat and straight pipe. My wife calls me a rapper....cause its LOUD!!! Its been a year and I haven't been pulled over yet.... but I am easy on the gas when the police are around. I even been through road blocks with no problem. My neighbors hate it but I dont care. He has a really loud bike so it makes us even, but i drive mine more....LOL
Ha... it's kinda funny cause everyone wants it to be louder, as do I. I have thought of putting a resonator on the 2004 Hemi's stock exhaust w/stock muffler so that it would be quieter. I guess I wanted to be different. A lot of people eventually get annoyed with their aftermarket exhaust and in the end, go back to stock. So you want a loud exhaust... and some of us mentioned going straight pipes. I'd like to bring up the Dodge Neon SRT-4, because it has no mufflers but a hell of a lot of bends. Maybe you could do something similar? Then again they use those bends as sound control. Have you tried Gibson exhaust?
