Cool 1998 Grand cherokee

Hi, I own a 1998 Grand cherokee with the steady awd, and was wondering if anyone else ever had a problem when turning on dry pavement, it clicks as you turn

It just clicks or it jumps and chirps the tires? Clicking would indicate a bad CV joint. Jumping and chirping would be the VC in the transfer case.

As stated above, a clicking sound, when you are turning, is sign of a bad constant velocity joint.

Yep, clicking is CV. Stuttering, grinding would be more indicative of LSD.

Congratulations! Just do not go picking a race with your friend...the 5.9 Limited will walk away, slowly, from the 5.7L Grand Cherokee.

I dunno what they do different to them in Grand Cherokees cause I've had a 5.9 in a Dodge Ram 1500 and a Hemi in my current one and with over 100 more HP the Hemi will SMOKE a 5.9 in a truck. Been there, done that, with video to prove it, LOL...

That is a mystery that I have been trying to solve for the last ten years. The 360 c.i. engines are rated with the same hp/tq in both the 1998 Grand Cherokee and Ram yet the Grand Cherokee has to have 91 octane. The "Use Premium Fuel Only" 91 octane is stated in the owner's manual, on the gauge cluster, and on the fuel door. Many people have stated that the 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9L is underrated at 245 h.p. and 345 lb. ft. I know that the Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited has a special P.C.M. programming. There was/is a T.S.B. giving owners the option of having the computer reprogrammed to allow the use of 87 octane.
