Default Shadow Cold Air Intake

Im working on designing a cold air intake for the shadow, seeings that there isnt anyone who makes them. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in buying one after I perfect it. Not sure what I would sell them for and will probaly be a while before I get it done. Sometime this week (hopefully) I will be making the box that will replace the stock airbox and where the air duct tube will mount to.

I'd be interested in this also!

You are referring to the N/A Engine, right? I've been looking for a decent intake for the TBI engine for a long time.

Yes im referring to the N/A this is going to work on both the 2.2l and 2.5l, I'm actually about to call my dad and see if I can use his garage for the night to finish my first one up. (seeings its cold out and hes got a heated garage, and i have no garage at all) Still unsure of what the cost is gonna run for one of these, and I also need to complete one for myself. Right now I'm using my stock air box with a peice of steel pipe (about a foot long) connected to it via rubber connector (made for intakes), and using a universal air filter on the end of it (no air filter in my air box at all). Seems to have increased the air flow ALOT by doing this little bit. So far I have about 30 dollars invested into this little bit, the rubber connector cost me 8 bux at pep boys, and I got the air filter from walmart for about 20 bux, the steel tubing...i got this peice free from a friend of a friend (i got about 25 foot of it) Will post a picture of my current setup, and what (if anything) i get done tonite later.

The question is how much are ya willing to pay? As of right now, I am the only person that I know of who is willing to make these, They will probaly be made to order, seeings I dont have a whole lot of free time, and will have to pay for some supplies myself. I am going to probally eliminate the rubber connector and weld this all up. Might still need it depending on how I decide to setup the small box I am designing to sit on top of the TBI.

Alrighty heres my progress, the first picture is of my current (semi cold air) intake. Other 3 are of the new air box that we just finished putting together, Should be finished with my first (my own) cold air intake on this coming Friday. We may relocate my battery to make things easier, Not really sure yet. If I do make these, and put a few up for sale...the price isnt going to be too cheap, my dad (after building the first one) which things will get easier on the next if we do build more, said he figures roughly $100 dollars to cover supplies and time (this requires about 45 mins of welding aswell; just for the box). This will NOT include a air filter either. Price may come down some, but no less than maybe 65-75 dollars, It all really depends on how much I can get the steel for, the tubing that I am using is overkill for an intake, and its super heavy. Therefor I will have to buy more tubing (and find a place to get it). I will also paint/clear coat it in any basic color you want it, otherwise it will be sent in primer or if you prefer unfinished. If there is anyone willing to pay this price to get one of these made (when I'm done and have pictures of what my final design looks like of course) lemme know and if your truly interested send me an email.

Just a suggestion, and to put people's minds at ease as far as performance improvements, I suggest doing before and after dyno runs, to put in black and white what you will be able to confirm first hand by installing the prototype on your car.

If there is a proven performance gain, then yes, I would definitely be interested.

Another suggestion... In order for it to improve performance even more (especially in the winter ) I would find a way to weld a 90 degree bend in it and direct it down towards the bottom of the engine compartment, because the current one I see installed in your car pulls air directly from a hot engine and radiatior, and we all know that engines hate hot air.

Not trying to be overly critical, just trying to help.

Dont know of any places that do a dyno right off, and its quite expensive from what I have heard. Not to mention that it wouldnt do much good to do a dyno with my car in its current state. Its got a rod knocking, and also has a half-shaft (drive axle) on its way out . Currently my intake isnt pullin in hot air, its pullin in cool air from below the car...alot cooler air, and better air flow than stock, i know this from the performance increase I have seen since I did it this way (which it will be changed again before the weekend). This is just a temp setup which a friend and I threw together in 5 mins to gain some cooler air (was still pretty warm out when I did this), the filter nearly hits the fan on the radiator right now its plenty far from the motor. Will post new pics this weekend of the finished design.

Just an idea here, but I would consider not having an airbox at all. Just run the cone airfilter on the tubing like you did and leave it alone. Airboxes generally just restrict airflow, and it would drop down the cost of construction, wieght, etc.

Would be pretty hard to do on a shadow, not sure if you have ever seen the TB on a shadow. I will probaly make a smaller box than this one if I make another, I have a few ideas of how I can cut down the time it takes to make one already, and how I can make it smaller. Shouldnt restrict much air flow as it is going to sit directly on top of the TB, isnt much bigger than the TB itself Though it is 3 inches tall. I really wish I could do away with the box completely, but for now this is the next best thing, I will probaly design a better one and build it in a few months when I have a bit more extra time. With winter coming and all...I'm usually busy doing other things (snowmobiling or snowboarding). Here is a picture of the TB, knew I had one around here some place.

Well didnt get anything done on Friday, ended up going snowmobiling, aswell as i did some on Saturday. After snowmobiling for about 2 and half hours lastnite we went back to my dads house and pulled the car in the garage and went to work on it. Took us only about (I'm guessing) 2 hours or so to finish the work, all that was needed was final fitment and measurements for the tubing (and welding it up of course). Heres the finished product, its held on by zipties right now cuz I have to pick up some bolts to bolt it down yet. With my old setup after driving for a while you could open the hood and feel the air box/filter and it would be pretty warm, i drove for probaly 45 mins lastnite, got out and felt the tubing and the airbox and it was ICE COLD. I feel the car has more horsepower now but not going to do a dyno to verify this as I dont really have the money nor time to do so. The filter sits right below the battery so its pulling cold air from under the car, Now all I gotta do is paint it and bolt it down! :-D Oh and fix the vacuum line that snapped lastnite lol. This spring I plan to replace all the vacuum lines/hoses when I drop my 2.5L motor in (Thats after I find a dammed ECU for it!). Well heres the pictures of the finished product!
