Default Sumitoma Tires

Ijust got an 03 SRT-4 and it came with Sumitoma HTR Z II (205/50ZR17) tires. Does anyone have any experience with these or any comments?

Thanks!

I have ran these tires, they seem to grip alright, good in the rain, what I liked about them the most is theyhad no road noise at hwy. speeds. those kdw that came out on my ride sounded like I was running mudgrips, but they bit good out of the hole.

Thanks srtratblock! The reason I asked is I did a search on the tires and there are reports that they are noisy andmake a grinding noise.

Mine seem to be pretty quiet. I have a light shimmy (tires and wheels have just been balanced) and a grinding noise only when I turn the wheel to the left just a little. The shimmy is always there and the grinding goes away on the straight. Anyone have any ideas?

I thinkI have found where my grinding and shimmy is. It's not the tires or wheels! I either have a bent RT side axle, a bad bearing or both. I will be looking into it further tomorrow.

Sounds like it could be that inner bearing behind wheel. So a bent axle can be a grinding noise also, Looks like that could make the wheel vibrate andshimmy also. I bet if the axle been bent foor a while, that would screw the inner bearing up.Let me know what you find out harrymue.

We jacked the front end up and ran it up to 20 mph and the Rt wheel wobbled. I thought the wheel was bent at first sowe swapped wheels (front to back) and that one wobbled too. Then Inoticed the rotor wobbling. That also made thebrake make a clicking sound when the rotor would scrape the pad. We didn't have time to pull the wheel and caliper off and spin the axle so we will do that tomorrow to narrow it down. I'll post the results!

The end of the axle is wobbling about 1 mm! I have one on the way and it should be here tomorrow (Tue)in the morning. I hope it's the right one. Stay tuned, more to come!

I have a 97 neon, my son slid on some ice and rammed the right frontwheel into a curve, bent the rim, after that it had a grinding noise when you turned to your left. I took it apart and it had screwed up the inner bearing. took it up to a shop and had old bearing pressed out and new one pressed in. brought it home and installed it, the damn thing still had a wabble to it. took it back apart and took back to shop, why they didn't check it I don't know. I call it the spindle that the bearing presses into. So I had to get anothernew spindle, have them press the new bearing out of the old spindle, and have it pressed back into the new one. The axle didn't get bent in this case, just the wheel, spindle, and needle bearing.

I took the carrier and axle to a local CV axle guy who's been in buisness for over 30 years and does a lot of work for the local roundy-round racers. My shaft is straight and the carrier is ok, but the hub was bent so I went to one of the local dealers and got a new hub and a new bearing . Back on the road! Gonna get it aligned tomorrow. Thanks for the help!
