Default Vacuum problems

Hello to everyone, this is my first post. Unfortunately it's because of a problem. I have a stock 04. Just had a Mopar BOV flange, but took it to satisfy local dealership because of this issue.

Here's the deal. In vacuum the surge valve seems to stay open. You can hear it much more with the BOV flange installed. It's fine with anymore than like 5-10% throttle. under that you hear what sounds like blow off but it's under vacuum and throttle. Seems to me like its sucking in atmospheric air through the BOV flange. You can watch the boost gauge and see it, it will seal up at about 10 vac. I was thinking it was a weak spring in the surge valve...

Any ideas?

I've never heard of anything like that. Was it installed properly? Does it Flutter?

I installed it myself. Yeah it was installed right, you can still watch the boost gauge and see the same effects without the flange, just can't hear it. I didn't hear any flutter. Just air.

first off, the bov plate is probably leaking. take it out and put some copper rtv on it an install it again. if you don't have any of the stage kits installed, it will blow off in vacuum. the sound that you're hearing is normal for a non-staged mopar bov car. to fix it either get a stage kit, or take out the whole set up and go with an aftermarket bov and bop...

But under throttle? That's what threw me off. The car went in for a PCV valve replacement and started after that.

For instance, if im sitting at a light. its at like 24 vac. When I press on the throttle lightly, you hear the air (like you would when it's venting intake manifold pressure) until it gets to 10 vac (when it seals up.) It will seal up under full vac instantly over about 10-15% throttle.

i would get that too, although not all the time. if it started after the pcv valve was changed, check the valve. they might have put the wrong one in (there are 2 versions), or maybe the vacuum source that's connected to it is not completly connected. check all your lines and make sure that everything is where is should be and isn't leaking.

this really just sounds like the normal mopar bov acting on a non-staged car. it does go off all the time, under pressure, under vaccum, whatever. that's why so many people don't like it....

just changed my mopar blow off plate out since im running more boost now but heres the deal as I have experienced. Blowing off at around 10in/hg of vaccum is the norm. The valve does leak but its easy to fix, heres what I did and It worked great : Take the thing back off the car and on the stock surge cap there is a rubber blatter with a spring inside the housing. Remove the plastic cap that holds the spring on to the back of that rubber blatter. Go to home depot or lowes or something like that and find 2 or 3 washers that the hole fits around the spring neck of the blatter, but making sure the washer(s) total diameter is enough that the spring will fit around it without sliding off. Stack 2 or 3 washers onto the spring neck then reinstall the spring and cap so the unit is once again whole. Reinstall and listen for the diffrence. Some people dont like to do it that way and some even say it doesnt work. It worked for me, I went from releasing for a long period around 10in/hg vaccum to holding true till about 1 or 2 psi using 2 washers. If you want to use 3 go ahead you will notice a louder stronger release for a shorter amount of time. Just be careful the spring isnt too tight now that the thing wont surge and grenade your turbo! Keep me posted on how it works for you. if you have a question ask and I will either send you pictures of what I mean or I can even trade you mine for yours since mine is still shimmed and im not using it anymore.

PSI Chick your a cool chick you know that. I have been meaning to tell you that for a while now! You really seem to know your stuff..... I meant to introduce myself to ya at the meet in pa back in oct (17) but never got around to it cause I was back and forth all day talking to everybody and their brother!! Ah well Maybe next time
