Is the SRT-4 a neon?
I have heard some debate back and forth about this. As far as I knew the SRT-4 was built on a neon base. I know a lot of the part are interchangeable. I know there are differences, both apperance wise and mechanically, but my understanding was they put a bigger turbocharger motor in and did some apperance upgrades to make it "sportier". I have heard a lot of people say that "MY Srt-4 is not a neon, neons are slow." just wanted to know what everyones opinion was.
Doesn't matter what we think. DCX says it is a NEON SRT-4....look at the top of your window sticker. I think it is the best thing Dodge has done in a long time; and I really don't care what they call it. Now if I can just convince my insurance company that it is "only" a Neon, I will be happy. I don't have an SRT-4, just a lowly 98 SOHC neon. I am however determined to make that same neon bury my fathers' 86 Indy pace car corvette. So I should be in the SRT-4 range soon, if I don't just buy one and mod that. And now comes the second part I can afford insurance on the 98, I priced insurance for a 2004 SRT.................$5900 a year, compared to $2100 for the 98, so thats holding me back a little, welcome to Connecticut home of the highest insurance rates.

nope, dcx calls it a SRT-4...it doesnt say neon ANYWHERE! not on window sticker, not window sticker, no where....
Bruins013 it does call it a neon on the window sticker when you buy it. and i usally call it a neon with other people cause i dont feel like explaining what an srt-4 every five min. with people that know i call it a srt4 and the ones that dont just wonder y i talk about racing a neon. but that works out better i think...
The SRT-4 is a Neon. It just happens to be a turbocharged and intercooled Neon with a far better suspension, wheels, tires, interior, exterior, ect. It's just like how the Trans AM is a Firebird, Z28, SS, RS, Iroc are Camaros, Grand National, GNX are Regals, STi's are Impreza's, EVO's are Lancers and so on.
Hell ya it's a Neon!
A really FAST, light Neon!!!
I would love to be able to tell people with 30k$ sports cars that they just got spanked by a NEON!

This discussion is probably as old as muscle cars themselves. It really used to **** me off when people called my 455 CI Trans Am a Fire Bird; and even in the '60s GTO owners would go crazy when you called their car a Le Mans. Names don't matter too much to me now...it all comes down to who has the lowest ET on their time slip.[sm=exactly.gif]

Our Window sticker said SRT-4... Called the insurance co before we bought it to get a quote... The couldn't find it under NEON. They found it under SRT-4. Looking it up on line on certain sites that aren't related to Dodge sites it's listed under SRT-4 so, ummm, I don't know what my opinion is. As far as I'm concerned, it's an SRT-4 like when I first seen it on Car and Driver television a few years ago. That's what the *** end of my car says and that's what the fawkin' manual says.
I don't care either way, it's fast and it's perrrrrrrdy so that's all I care about...
