They've also had cameras at red lights in the cities since the 1970's. You don't see a lot of German cops patrolling, they let the cameras do most of the work. They also like to set up "safety check points" on the side of the road to see if you are carrying the required safety equipment like a warning triangle, etc...they'll also check the tread on your tires, including the spare. It's a separate fine for each tire/safety violation.
Forget about drinking and driving as well. There is NO refusing to give a blood sample for a BAT......they will force you to the ground and get it if you resist......and they travel in groups.....

Yes, but doesn't Germany also have a Highway system called the Autoban. I would not mind having speeding cameras if there was a road that didn't have a speed limit. I could speed legally and get it out of my system, then drive like a grandma everywhere else.
The autobahn is not totally speed-limit free. Areas around cities have posted speed limits as do all secondary roads. As you can imagine, the sections without speed limits have some pretty horrific crashes that few people survive, even in their Benz's and Beemer's. However, it was my experience that the drivers to watch out for were the Americans, normally G.I.'s....their lack of experience on high speed roads and the typical "clunker" cars they drove added up to an accident waiting to happen....
I did know that there were speed limits in areas, and I do agree that most americans are not good drivers, especially left lane slow pokes, which is just plain dangerous. You need to be smart when driveing on high speed roads. Thing happen extremely fast at those speeds. Isn't it true that you can get a ticket for driving in the left lane. The left lane is only for passing.
I went to germany this past summer. The autobahn is fun. yes there are speed limits going through cities. the plus side of germany, typically speaking they know how to drive. we cruised along at about 220 km/h. it's simple you drive fast you stay in the fast lane with your left blinker on. people get outta your way. there you can get a ticket for passing on the right, even if the people in front of you are going slow.

You have leftlane slow pokes, and right lane GERIATRICS!! THEN theres the people who absolutely have NO idea how to merge onto a highway, and the various outcomes of those situations. Ummm guys the slow speed lane isn't a travel lane. I could go on and on about driver's here in the States. I wanna go to Germany with my SRT, and see how much better it is. They must be doing something right.
Dusty/Roach do they have the same age for licensure that the states do?? Here in RI is 16/16.5 for a permit, then 17-18 for your actual provisional License. Or do they wait until a later age for licensure??
