Back in the "Cold War"days, the minimum age for a German drivers license was 18, I think. I do know that ALL potential drivers, regardless of age, had to go through a government certified driving school that ran about $2,000 at the dollar/mark exchange rate back then. German auto inspections are also very, very thorough.....most American owned cars flunked the first time through.....too little tire tread was the most common cause (and they check your spare tire as well).
wow, this thread has def. changed topics... I was hoping to see more pics of the Mopar 5" tach and shift light installed... cause I had considered adding it to my car (the blue shift light alone in the E. blue car makes me happy in ways I haven't felt since climbing the rope in gym class)

Yeah, they have fewer overall, but the ones they do have tend to be pretty serious, and most people are seriously hurt or killed......on the day I rotated back to the states, a fast moving van carring 8 Americans (4 moms and 4 kids) flipped on it's side and went skidding down the autobahn, throwing sparks everywhere. Some of those sparks got inside the gas filler tube on the side of the van and caused it to explode, burning all inside to death. Seat belts and air bags don't help in a case like that.

OMG thats horrible. I don't know which I'd rather have. After hearing that, and knowing that you were there firsthand, I think I prefer driving in the States. At least theres a speed limit, and though they're stricter in Germany, I guess the accidents we have here overall/altogether are less tragic. Its a chance you take every time you leave your house. Whether your in Germany or in the States.
Thats horrible what happened to those little kids and their moms....I could never imagine something like that [&o]. Your never really safe on the road. Alcoholics and those who drink make it worse. Three out of every ten americans will be involved in an alcohol related crash in their lifetime, NHSTA 2004. I just did a speech on that stuff, I was hit by a drunk driver... Your never really safe anymore, you could be the best driver in the world, and theres always gonna be an idiot.
I got got back from Belgim... ill take a pic tommorrow
