What am I Getting Into???
I posted incorrectly on the Neon side so let me try again:
I have a 93 Taurus SHO that I regrettably must part with by next yr (maintenance killing me). Anyhow I have been looking at 2 vehilces to replace my current one with; the SRT-4 being one of my choices; WRX is the 2nd. Now every vehicle has its history of quirks. Since I really have no intentions of modifying the stock vehicle (so i said of my SHO but, a SHO shop y-pipe, Vortech maf and a few other changes later) I wanted to know what if any major difficulties I can expect of this car? I intend to probably purcahse one later next yr (preferable an 05 with warranty). So folks please give me your feedbacks.

no problems so far with mine... I put an oil catch can on it because the turbo caused it to drip a drop or two of oil, but that was only about $20.00. no mentionable problems other than that though. It is a very bullet proof motor and especially transmission...
Yes Fingers you are correct, the WRX is about 10 grand more. Now you get AWD (less fuel efficient) and a slightly better cosmetic interior. Is it worth it for that? That depends on who you ask.
I am not a fan of the WRX STi. If its the STi your speaking of. Yes it has more crank HP, but every ricer and their mom has one. I prefer to be different, which is why I have my SRT-4. Also, they don't hold up as well in accidents as the SRT-4s do. Lets not get into another argument about this. I know when someone buys a car they don't think about getting into an accident....but if ever it does happen, you have peace of mind.
Yes AWD....10 grand worth it? Nope. Not to me. Snow tires are ALOT cheaper (I can get them for 80 bucks each next day if I wanted). Gas? SRT-4 wins. I don't like the WRX's interior, so SRT-4 wins in that book for me too. Rims? While the SRT's aren't the nicest...I DONT like gold rims at all...ew. And that wing and hoodscoop on the STi are too dooky for me. The SRT-4 is more smooth. And the greatest part about owning an SRT-4....everyone thinks its a neon
. So its fun to play with Ricers.
I would choose the SRT-4 over the Scooby any day...Theres another thread here about this. But I can't choose your car for you. Until I'm making your payments that is, and I'm not paying so you buy what you will. But for the small gains/pluses the STi has...its not worth the extra 10 grand. At all.

Oh and the Viper seats are 100x more comfortable in my opinion. I've driven an STi when I worked at a Dodge-Scooby dealer....hated it. Those clutches are wayyy too soft for me. I like the stiffness of the SRTs clutch.
Yes, but all parts except the turbo are American.
The SRT-4 will hand a WRX it's butt everytime, the WRX has it on the launch due to the AWD but everything after that is all SRT-4. I haven't had any problems with mine and I'm loving it. Your best off with an SRT-4 and if you have another couple thousand $$$ to spend then if you want you can make the SRT-4 kick the crap out of a Z-06 and still be only half the price of one.
