i'm not sure what you mean by the fan being on automatically? that's the point of the switch. you can turn it on and off whenever you want. it doesn't stay on when the car's off if that's what you're talking about.
the harness is the big bunch of wires that sit right above the ecu. can't really miss it, it's like two inches wide. just take off the tape and find that blue/pink wire. it should be the only blue/pink one in there so it's pretty easy to spot.

If you don't want to mess with the harness, you can also run a wire to the fuse box. In the fuse box, the big black relay closest to you (If standing on drivers side), you can simply put one end of a wire into where the prong closest to youplugs in. Damn, this is challenging to type out. I will see if i can find / take a pic. Just make sure the wire is a healthy gauge. Tehn run that to a toggle, and then run a wire from that toa ground. This will only turn on one of the fans, but one is plenty....
