Default broke again

My car is broken again. I am getting sick of fixing this thing. It seems like its the clutch or tranny maybe both I am not sure. Its hard to get it into gear and when i do get it into gear with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor I can feel the clutch grabbing and the car starts moving even when the clutch is pressed. It will not go into reverse when the car is runnin. I have to turn the car off put it in reverse and start it. But its still grabbing when the clutch is down. It also makes a terrible grinding sound. It kinda seems like the clutch is not disengaging completley. It started last night when i went wot the clutch did not grab in 3rd so i thought my clutch needed to be replaced but I have only had it for about a year,Its a clutchmaster stage 4 and alum flywheel. Now it wont go into gear unless I either shut the car off or really force it into gear. Any Ideas

my first impression would be clutch like you're thinking. also though it could be the shifter cables. check that they're not stretched or twisted at all.

I dont think it would be the shifter cables cuz it does go into gear with no issue if the car is off, but when it is running it seems like the clutch does not disengage. the petal does not feel the same either. is there a possibility that i sucked air into the clutch lines? But i tried revving it up and dropped the clutch in 3rd and it does not hold but in 2nd it does. How long does a clutmasters stage 4 last cuz I have only put 13,000 miles on this???

Join the club. Same thing happened to mine, although I don't have nearly the same amount of mods as you. When I first started having shifting problems (around 60K miles) I had a SPEC Stage II clutch installed and had the synchros and shift forks replaced. It was like butter for about 10K miles then it didn't want to go in reverse and even 1st gear was tough sometimes. Eventually it got so bad I couldn't get into reverse at all with the car running. Also, I would have to shut the car off or force it really hard into 1st when stopped, and it would grind going into 3rd. I then had the tranny replaced under warranty and at that time I had the Mopar Perormance clutch installed. Runs perfect now!

Sorry to say but I think the main issue for you is the tranny (synchros and shift forks). Best of luck.

the cm s4 is a race clutch, not a street clutch, so you're not going to get 80k out of it like you will a normal clutch. 20-30k is probably the norm, maybe 40 if you push it. i have about 15k (as well as probably 100 passes or more) on mine and it needs to be replaced soon.

I think it's the tranny based on the symptoms being the same as what I experienced, but see what they tell you. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that mine too would start to move in 1st and Reverse even with the clutch pressed all the way down. How many miles on yours?

Also I know it's not the best thing for the tranny to WOT shift. A friend of mine who is a Dodge mechanic told me that the input shaft does not line up properly for WOT shifting (or something like that) and that's why you will WOT shift to 3rd and it will not always allow the shift. He told me about this guy who is working on a chip or something that will shut down the engine for a split second, just enough to let it line up so you can WOT shift safer and smoother. it is a good clutch, in fact it's an excellent clutch. when you're making decent power it's not going to last long that's all. that's true of any high tq holding race clutch. it's not designed for longevity, it's designed to hold power. it's just one of the issues with making decent numbers, is you aren't going to get serious longevity out of a clutch.

it's not the input shaft, it's the synchro that doesn't allow you in. and what he's talking about is called the wot box and it'smade by n2mband it's been in production for over a year now. i have one, it's one of the best mods i've done to the car.

Ya I have read up on the wot box. I think I need to get one here soon. The shop is busy so I am not gonna be able to bring it in for about a week. Does anyone have any ideas that I can try to try and diagnose the issue?
