Why do I have Oil in my pipe?

Why do I have Oil in my pipe?
I was under my car the other day, and seen a pipe that leads to the intercooler in the front of the car, a lower pipe on the drivers side, about 2.5 inchs in size, there was a little bit of oily residue on it...from what I dont know...I cleaned it up, not a lot at all, but some drips.
Is this a normal occurance with our cars and how do I remedy the situation?
Also...I am not running a catch can at this time...I know...I know...I need one.
What does this mean form a performance standpoint? Is the intercooler heaping full of oil?
Thanks for all your help.

RE: Why do I have Oil in my pipe?
that oil is blow by from the pcv valve. that's what a catch can is meant to stop from happening. a lot of people act like it's the end of the world if you don't have a catch can, but i haven't had one in three years and i'm running just fine. you don't NEED one. it might be a good idea, but it's not hurting anything not having it on there. a check valve is a cheaper, smaller, and less annoying alternative.

[sm=drlove.gif]Thanks PSI...Nice to know I'm not dead or something...
Heres the think, when I floor the car in 4th form say 2200 RPM, the car's turbo will kick in, and I feel like a surging or something, like the turbo is trying to go to full boost and is being held back by something...its a weird thing to try and descibe...could this be the oil inside the system that is being pushed into the turbo or is inside the intercooler that is not being fully "charged"...that is cooled...do to the oils effect on the system as a whole?
The car runs great and idles just fine...no complaints really..just this surging issue.

ptb??? dont know that term..
My motor is stock.
Lets say i'm going 55 in forth and want to pass someone...I hit the gas to the floor and the guage says spikes to 15-14 and backs down to like 12-13 steady and the turbo starts to really spool up, I feel like a surgeing of sorts, like the turbo is having to pace itself or something, like it is gasping for air, it wants to go even more, but it is being limited by something, it will disappear after I hit about 90 MPH or so...its just getting there that I feel the surging...any ideas?
