Looking for Srt possibly
Hey everybody I'm new here and I am trying to save up to get myself an srt. I'm 16 and live in the Detroit area. It'll take me until probably mid summer to save up the money. If anyone is like remotely in the area (200 miles) and thinks they might be selling their's this summer for roughly 15k let me know please. Thanks.

no offense..but I wouldn't let my children get a SRT-4 at the age of 16. Do you realize how much car insusrance is going to cost you (or your parents)??? Do you realize that this car isn't the most economical when it comes to gas mileage?
If I were your parents (thankfully for you I'm not) I would start you out with an SXT not a SRT-4.

no offense here either, but i would have to agree... This is definatly not a starter car. like i said, don't trake offense at it, when I was 16, i was "very mature" and i probably would have killed myself or someone else... you really should not start out with a car like that, you have to work your way up...
If you plan on putting this car in your name, just a little hint of info for you. Because your just starting out your insurance will be much higher than mine. But I'm a 19 y/o female with one accident not at fault, one at fault (which brought my insurance down somehow) and I'm paying $4000 a year for insurance. Something around 340 dollars a month. Your a new driver, your a kid, your insurance is going to be THROUGH the roof.
The SRT-4 is not a starter car for anyone, not just you. We're not saying that to be offensive, just to look out for you. While you may like the car alot....its just not something you should start out with. Find a Neon R/T, juice it, bore it out, do what you'd like.....then upgrade to an SRT-4 later. But I don't recommend an SRT-4 as a starter car.
My first car was a brand new 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T coupe. I wanted a standard, but no such luck it was triptronic, still powerful at 200/200 for power/torque respectively. But it was a good car to start off in.

Hey ya I definately know where you all are coming from. Thing is it's not like I am a new driver. I'm that type of kid that custom build go-karts with his brother as a kid and started driving about the same time i learned to walk. I got my first warning at the age of 4, when my uncle taught me how to do doughnuts. I'm a hardcore fan of this car. Fortunately for me my mom will put the insurance in her name but I will still have to pay for it. We have got quotes from her company and it is not much worse than the car I'm driving at the moment.

Well your lucky in that event. My car, loan, and insurance are all in my name. Luckily my loan APR is extremely low for a 19 year old, though the insurance isn't the best, thats due to the car I drive and the area I live in.
If your moms gonna help you out that kicks ***!!! Just be careful with the car, its nothing like a go-kart. It has horrible torque steer, if your accelerating easy on the wheel, the car will plant and stay planted....flying into whatevers in front of it. Its sometimes hard to control. I wish you the best.

"horrible torque steer"? Sexy, do you know what torque steer is? It's when you hammer the throttle and the torque makes the car WANT to change lanes. In my GLHS, I can honestly change lanes (to the right) with just the throttle, no steering input required. I think you are talking about snap throttle oversteer, where sudden brake and throttle inputs in a turn make the cars rear end just "snap" around.
The point remains valid, misnamed stuff aside. This car can RAPIDLY get you into a situation where it all goes to hell NOW!!!! The SRT guys did a great job of compromising the handling between racecar and 16 yo daily driver, but , as with most compromises, theres losses to both functions.
It's not quite ready for the track, and it's able to fool 16 yo (and yes, a lot older folks too) into getting into corners like a racecar, then having that daily driver stuff send you offroad.
