Default srt-4 mistaken for a regular neon?

I'm planning on getting an srt-4 soon but i've been thinking about something. Once I get one, will the average person look at it and see just a regular neon or will they see that it's something different. I personally want my srt-4 to be an attention getter. I don't want people to see it and overlook it as a regular neon. I currently have a honda prelude with a spoiler similar to that on the srt-4. My prelude has gotten tons of attention from people wanting to race to people just staring at it. I'm hoping to get the same results or better from the srt-4. What do you guys think? Will the srt-4 be seen as just a regular neon to the average person or not? Thanks

Personally I say who cares?? I can say that most might catch a glipse at the rear of your car and see the emblem. But if you drive like most of us on this forum I doubt it.

Well the exhaust has a muscle car growl, it has a FMIC, a huge wing, 17" wheels, dual exhaust, completely different front facia and if you get a BOV you will get everyones attention. Yes it's a neon by heart. No where on the car does it say Neon. No where on the car does it say turbo either. Thats the beauty of the srt, it looks like nothing else on the road and theres nothing like punching it from a roll and shifting so the BOV tells everyone to get the F out the way!

Well quite the opposite happens to me. And its not just a once awhile occurence. People mistake my regular neon for an SRT4. It happens the most when they roll up on me from behind and see the rear end. Then thats usually about the point where they pull up along side me and then want to race me. And I usually don't turn down the challenge either...LOL.

I've never been mistaken for one. Though you will get the "its just a neon" line ALL the time. Then you show them what your "neon" can do. Thats the same stupid argument as an STi is just a WRX, an EVO VIII is just a Lancer, etc etc. Its stupid **** to jerk you off, or get you to race them, simply because more often than not they're jealous.

If people don't know what it is, they'll usually just stare. Or ask questions. When I was in my friends stock appearing SRT-4, the tow truck guy asked me if it came with the spoiler, rims, tires, and "body kit". Yes, yes, yes, and Yes. So the majority of people DONT know what it is. So they stare. You'll get attention all right, but eventually the attention gets annoying....especially when your a CHICK driving an SRT-4....then they really stare. "Is that your boyfriends car?" WTF? ITS mine bitches!

I went into a gas station a few months back to get gas and I see this lexus IS300 pull in. He pulls up to the pump next to me and rolls the window down and says "hey, is that an SRT4?" And I told him no. This was when I still had my SXT wing on it too...lol. But I talked to the dude for a little bit...he was pretty cool. But its just silly how many people don't know the difference between the two cars.

Alot of people can't stand dodge due to the fact that its "made in america" and "american cars suck". I find that funny, because any car can suck. It all really depends on how you treat it. I'm a Mopar baby, so I know all the DCX vehicles and lineups. But alot of people out there couldn't tell a corolla from a camry if you paid them.

NeonSXT, thats why alot of SRT-4 owners debadge the rear, put a single muffler on, roll the rear bumper, and dewing the car or put an SXT wing on (in the case of RIPSIGUY he has an SXT wing). They do it so that people won't "really" know its an SRT-4. I'm not all that into the racing aspect of it, so I could honestly care less. But to alot of people, being a "sleeper" is key.

Back on topic, it is amazing the amount of people who are totally clueless about cars. I mean...read the rear bumper for christ's sake. If its says Ram, its not an F-150. [>:]

Also part of the issue is that it's not a very common car, so a lot of people have never noticed it on the street, and Dodge has never really advertised it, so few people have seen it on TV or in the newspaper.

Personally I prefer the sleeper look, so it doesn't bother me. Besides, it IS a Neon, just like the WRX is an Impreza.

Actually it does say turbo on it, right on the hood scoop insert,"2.4L TURBO".

Either they know what an SRT-4 is or they just think it's a Neon with a body kit (some dunce at a car show I had my SRT-4 in thought that) or they have no idea what it is. Now DCX has blurred the line between the regular Neon and the SRT-4 by releasing an SRT Design Group Package option for the Neon SXT's. This gives the SXT the SRT-4 hood and spoiler along with a dual outlet exhaust and an SRT concept car style nose. To those that truely know the SRT-4 there is no mistaking them, but to those that don't it will become a problem.

Regardless, people will notice it and it will get lots of attention, especially if you put a BOV on it. I have only had one negative response that I overheard, the dunce at the car show (I overheard him saying to his buddies, "why would someone bring a Neon to a car show" and "all it has is a body kit and it's not even a good one". I then said out loud to a friend of mine that was there,"some people are so stupid that they don't even realize that this isn't a regular Neon, it's an SRT-4 which is a whole lot different than a regular Neon." It was great, he heard me just as I had intended and then I looked at him and he looked half pissed and half stupid at the same time, because he didn't have a clue, it was frickin' great![sm=icon_rofl.gif]), everything else has been positive (with the exception of those that heard the BOV while walking/standing by the road). I've gotten tons of compliments on it and have even overheard several people talking to others about it, some wishing they had it and others just telling their friends how awesome they are. And for those that think it is just a Neon, you get to have tons of fun destroying them with your "just a Neon".
