You are to commended on your attitude. Number one cause of of folks crashing these is in the corners. It has handling so far above the normal run of the mill grocery getter that you can feel like it will never let go. This leads to diving into a corner hard, then getting freaked when the car slides a little. Common reaction to losing a little grip is to get off the gas and stab the brakes.
This leads to the car rotating around its center of gravity, or "Ohmigod, it just spun out!!!!!!!!", and going offroad. So, learn slowly, expand your envelope a bit at a time. NEVER be abrupt with gas and brake in a turn. If they have it this year, spend $35 and attend the Mazda Revitup. Cheapest decent course in car control you can get. and you get to use somebody elses cars
