Default SRT4 questions...

I'm new to the SRT-4, still looking at buying.

I have a few questions.

#1: It seems like the motor and tranny combo is pretty strong. Aside from axles, are there any real problems with the cars?

#2: What is the potential 1/4 mile time out of a stock SRT4? I've heard anything from 13.2 to 14.4's. I already have a 4 cyl that will pull mid 14's and I don't want to spend $21k to get the same performance.

#3: For 2005, the orange blast color was added, correct? Is it a low production color or what?

Thanks

Hi, I bought my SRT-4 8 months ago, I will try to answer your questions.

I have a few answers.

#1 - There are not really many problems with the SRT-4, problems start to occur if you add modifications. The modifications just make the window of failure bigger. But, I haven't had any problems with my car besides the TPS's (Throttle Position Sensor) ground in the wire harness break from extra tension from factory, but all is fine now.

#2 - If you check out my site on cardomain, by going into my profile the stock stats are on the left side. The link may even be at the bottum of this message.

#3- You are correct about the Orange Blast being added to the colors, but i am not sure that it is going to be a low production color. Check out the post titled 2005 Dodge SRT-4 ACR Edition! It comes in white.

Thanks for the info.

My wife called the dealer today to schedule a test drive... To my surprise, they said we could take a test RIDE, not DRIVE. They said that Chrysler sent this guy "chris" to "school" to learn how to drive the SRT4 and that he is the only one that can drive it.

Is this common? Why would we not be able to drive a car that we are looking at BUYING?

Another question... about the brakes.

Our local dealer, the one that wont let me drive my potential car, has a peice of paper on the dash of their SRT4 stating some specs, and it mentions Brembo brakes. Is this true? I thought they were stock Dodge engineered brakes.

1. stock there are no major problems. begin to mod it, you might have some. this isn't unexpected to any car.

2. stock times for 04-05's are around 13.7-14.0. 13.2 is not even realistic for a stock car, don't know where you heard that one. a 13.7 is a good driver in a stock car. sure 14.4's are possible, not everyone can drive well. i did a 13.8@101 in my stock 03.

3. orange blast is a metalic color, and carries a $150 charge for the color. it's not a low production color, but it is one that you have to pay for. for 2005.5, silver is no longer a production color, it has been replaced with white. you can get while in a normal srt, not only the acr edition.

4. no, they are not brembo breaks. they're damn good stock breaks, but they are mopar.

5. no one has ever gone to any school for anything related to the srt-4. don't believe your dealership on that one. they do love to tell people that though. not being able to test drive them is very common. these are a limited production car with a very low mark up, so they need to sell all the ones that they get in. people will not buy an srt if they know that it's been test driven and/or has high miles on it (potential srt owners generally consider anything over 20 miles as high mileage). as such, dealer's aren't loving the idea of letting people test drive them, as then that car will be even more difficult to sell. some dealers will allow you to test drive them, but many are not. try another dealership, but don't be surprised if they too say no. they way that the dealers are seeing it is that if you really want the car and are interested, you'll buy it even before driving it. many many people have (i did), so it's not so unusal for them to asume that. this is a love it or hate it type of car, so either you want it or you don't. the dealership isn't making a whole lot of money selling these things, and they are selling pretty quick, so they figure that if you aren't sure and want a test drive, they can wait a week for someone who really wants the car and will buy it regardless of being able to test drive it. they keep the milegae down and the car gets sold anyway. as far as these cars are concerned, they dealership is not dying to get you to buy it, if you don't someone else will, and they know that.

I went to three dealers before I bought my SRT-4. One (where I'd purchased my previous car) wouldn't let me drive it; that was the last time they saw me. The other two did, because they were more eager to sell, I guess.

If there's on 04 on the lot, see if you can drive it instead. They might be more willing to do that. The 05 will feel exactly the same. Or, you can use the vehicle locator at dodge.com to find who has what in your area; then call around and hopefully you'll find someone more 'reasonable'.

Good luck!

not a bad owner, but i would be concerned about what happened to the car in that 800 miles. and i hope that they gave you a good deal on it for having that many miles......
