Default DOWN SHIFTING

HI!!! So, Nic and I were talking the other night, and we were wondering, who all DOWN SHIFTS... We were both raised to down shift and we both down shift. However, some people frown upon it, saying it puts more wear and tear on the clutch, or it's cheaper to replace brakes than a clutch... So, just wanted to run a poll and see, who down shifts and who doesn't.

Thanks!!!

I always downshift, it's how I learned. I've been trying to teach my wife and she seems to have a hard time with the downshifting part. It probably does cause more wear on teh cluth parts, but it's a hard habit to break. I don't even think about it, it just happens. In my last manual car, the clutch lasted 80K, so I guess it didn't do too much undue damage. Only time will tell with this car. If you read the manual, I beleive it says not to skip gears, but I may be wrong. I would assume that not downshifting would be skipping gears.

i always downshift as well, it saves the brakes and is especially useful in icy conditions!

Thats a very good point. I downshift a lot more in the snow when trying to slow down. I can stay off the brakes more and stop myself from sliding all over the place like I was tonight.[&:][&:]
