tranny problems?!
i have an 04 srt4 with 60k miles and i think there might be something rong with the transmission because about 60 percent of the time i got to almost force it into gear and it grinds every once and awhile. ive heard it might be the clutch, tranny its self, orthe clutch master cylinder may need to be bleed. does anybody have this same problem? and what should i do?
my geuss is the clutch is toast. when it starts to go out it makes it much harder to put it in gear. does it feel like the clutch petal is softer at all from when you first got the car? if you think so you need a new clutch. just my two cents im not a mechanic or any thing thats just what i think is going on here
no its actually prettty decent for a stock clutch. i think ive hear like 350 to 400 i think. could be less im not too sure i havnt seen this question in a long time. if im wrong someone please correct me.
Depends on how you drive it.
Clutches get measured at torque they handle, not so much hp.
I had a consistent 450+wtq through mine for ahwile before it finally needed a replacement about 3 years later.

x2 on how you drive it. you could still be stock and blowing threw clutches in no time. when i got my first srt new i burnt out the clutch in like 6000 or 7000 miles. lots of racing and hard launches. luckily the first clutch was under warrenty so i got a new one.
It sounds to me like you may need to replace the stock shifter bushings with some Booger Bushings! The factory ones get too soft after time and wont let you get the trans fully into the selected gear. It will get worse with stop and go traffic on a hot day, because that is when the factory bushings are going the be the most 'mushy'.
The trans grinds when you try to get in the selected gear because you are only -half way, or so- into that gear. Then you let out the clutch and get a little grind as the trans popes into or out of gear, depending how close you were.
Booger bushings are the cheapest answer. You may still need a clutch, but what you are describing does not sound like a worn out clutch.
*The #1 sign your clutch is going is it will start to slip when you floor the car while driving at freeway speeds (70mph).
or #2 sign is you look like an ACE driver when launching the car because you get just the right amount of clutch slip to get a great launch a few times in a row. But then she doesn't like to launch so hard any more and you get this awful smell. LOL
Just my 2 cents, hope it helps,

Not Sure if this is where to post this but giving it a shot. I just took a 2004 neon srt4 for a test drive, which ive been waiting months for and loved it only thing is i dont know alot about the car and what its been through, first 30 seconds it foulded a plug and missfired on the third cylinder, and is extremely hard to shift gears even with the clutch planted to the floor( no grinds though). when i did get get her opened up it had great acceleration but had somewhat whistle to it when you were up in the boost. just wondering if this thing is going to be a lemon and if there are many common problems with these cars. thnx
