Insurance??
Is the average insurance on the SRT-4 a lot? This freshman was asking me what a good first car would be and her parents will only spend $26,000. I immediately said SRT-4 but she then told me that she has to pay for her insurance.
Tell her to take the extra 4K from her parents and have them apply it towards her insurance. The money won't last two years, but by then she should be able to find a "student worker" job or another job off campus. In addition, she should take a defensive driving course ($25 at the university I work at), and install an alarm or have the dealer activate the one they built into the car. Short of that, she could buy a bread and butter Neon or a Kia (cough, gag, spit).[:'(]
It's all a joke, made legal by our own favorite uncle, Sam. For someone who's mother in law is an insurance specialist I know to much. Believe it or not, there is an on going fight between the big three insurance companies and the big three auto makers. It boils down to the insurance companies telling the auto makers what kind of car that they think you and me should drive...Yeah it's just like that. Well The auto makers won't hear it, they can't survive off of making one kind of car. Think about it, people want to go fast, haul a barn, haul all the kids on the block, have room, won't 100mpg, like to car pool, on an on you get the picture. The likes of the Dodge Neon(non SRT) and Ford's Focus(non svt) and the Chevy Cavaler(can't spell it)an S-10 p/u are what the big insurance companies call "Target cars" These cars are what they consider everyone should drive and offer the best rates, unless your rated as a "loss" which means two many speeding tickets, wrecks or dwi/dui. For those of us who like to drive SRT-4's, Vipers, vette's, etc. We are considered "outside the loop" and are made to pay for driving what we want. And the price of our rides has nothing to do with the rates, the extra monies your paying for that sports car or truck is considered "penalty payments" by the insurance companies that write your policy. As a Railroad employee i fully understand what Monopoly laws are, im in the industry that spawned the term before my great, great grandfather was born. Yet most state laws reguire that you have insurance(Monopoly) with the exception of Alabama and Mississippi(this may have changed) to drive, register, inspect your car. In Texas they can suspend your DL for a year on the first conviction of driving with out insurance wreck or not! What the big insurance companies don't tell is how they pad our law makers pockets with upwards of 1.5 billion dollars each year( of course this is broken down over 50 states)this is tax deductible so they don't have to release this information to me or you. I don't have a problem with auto insurance it's the piece of mind incase of theft, fire, flood, wreck, etc that i like. I hate paying more because i got a ticket. And while i'm at it, why should i pay a fine for a road i pay to drive on? I brought my car, insurance, payed vehicle tax, payed to register it, inspect it, pay tax at the pump to pay for the road i drive on. Guess i will never be in office, my nose won't go that low.
Well while we are on this subject my insurance for the srt is 1413.64 for 6mos. now I do have an accident, DUI, illegal pass, and too fast for condition. which should all come off by my next renewal. As to the person who has USAA and is thinking about switching dont you have the best coverage on the market. keep it at all cost. I have been dealing with USAA for close to 15 years and am extremely happy with them. Even with a sr-22 they are still my preferred company. now enough of the soap box sorry.
Other than the high rate for the SRT-4, I have no complaints about USAA. In the few times I had to file a claim, they took care of everything fast. I have homeowner's insurance with them as well. I realized today that I didn't tell them the SRT-4 has an alarm, so that will help reduce the rates a little...I'm still going to compare a few other companies just to see if there is a major difference.
If you have more than one car with them that will lower your rates as well. I have two cars and the home owners insurance with them. All is well. I like the dividend check from them which I dont think you get with any one else. So that may be the determining factor for me.

Be prepared for a hefty hike, I tried to keep the cost down by just saying I bought
a "Neon", but the VIN # gives away the fact that it's a SRT-4.
Yeah, I like the dividend check as well, but I don't count on it every year. It all depends on how well USAA does on THE BOTTOM LINE.[sm=smiley36.gif]
