In my town, the cops are straight-up a$$hole$ and have a reputation for giving out "loud muffler" tickets...so today i'm coming home from school and get pulled over because "that is exhaust is way too loud"...so i tell him that its a stock factory option from the dealer and that you can order it from any dodge dealer, and its 50-state legal and he told me that if i can prove it he'll dismiss the ticket. For one, its bogus that I would even get a ticket for something that retarted- it was a young cop, and hes probly just trying to fill his quota, and two, I know that you can get it from any dealer. Now I just need it in paperwork, which is where if you guys/girls can give me some help in black and white, like a link to a website that says its legal, I would be very appreciative!! My dad is personal friends with a Dodge dealership owner and parts manager, so he is going to try and help me out that way, but if you all could help me it would be even better. Thanks

 

I would goto the dealer and get something from them. Anything you print off the web is not gonna be as good as that.

 

ok there's a few things that you need to realize here. first is that the mopar/borla exhaust is not a "factory option", it is an aftermarket exhaust. mopar performance is not mopar. it is considered aftermarket, and needs to be treated as such. second, just because you can walk into a dealer and order it doesn't mean that it's legit in all 50 states. i can walk into any dodge dealer and order a stage kit too, and those are definetly not legal everywhere. although they will pass, they do not have the paperwork behind it. this is why they are labled "for off use road only", as the gov. has not certified their emissions. the mopar/borla may not be legal in all 50 states, and no where has dodge/dcx/mopar performance ever said that it was.

the only way to beat this is to find out what the sound ordanance is in your town/state/city, wherever. 95db@100ft seems to be the going rate, but check that out for yourself. then go get the car sound tested. if you are below the legal limit, bring the paper work with you to court and show them. if you're above it, pay the ticket and get on with life, you will not beat it. the borla exhaust is not oem and you can't use the argument that it's an oem exhaust or that the car comes stock with no mufflers, because you are not stock.

Try getting the paperwork where it tells you that SRT models DO NOT HAVE MUFFLERS.

not necessarily. get the car sound tested. if you're under the legal limit, the ticket gets thrown out. hopefully where you got the ticket doesn't have a discrssionary law, because then you'll be in trouble. but most places do not have those anymore, and have an actual sound limit that you need to be under. if the car is, just take the papers to court and show them. also keep a copy of the report with you in the car just in case this ever happens again, you can show them that you car is within the legal sound limits.

.5" difference or 4", it's not oem and it is aftermarket as far as the law is concerned.

ramfan - your local dmv can tell you what shops in the area have the equipment to sound test

 

the bottom line is that if you prove him wrong, he will have to void a ticket, and it is going to make him look stupid. once you make a pig look stupid, they will tell the rest of the pigs down at the barn, and then they will all look for you, and hit you for every stupid little thing they can, every time they can....and theres not a damn thing you can do about it...cops in small towns are just bullies who got tired of being picked on in high school, seldom had nice cars, so now they can go around and pick on the kids that have nice cars and so forth..and we have to suffer through it..because thats how it works...pay it, grin and bear it...
