Default Going to the track for the first time

Going to drag it Friday night. Any tips as far as launching. I can WOT shift just fine, but do I need to do from 1st to 2nd? Any tips would be great. I have raced road bikes(Bicycles), Motocross, and Karts, but never drag raced before. Once racing is in your blood, you can't get it out.

Personally I find wot unnecessary from 1-2. I need to feather it a little in second or I get too much wheelspin. 2-3 and 3-4 definitely. My best launches have been by reving to 2000rpm and feathering the clutch out from there.

like posthondaremoval said, my best launches also came at 2000 RPM, anything higher than 2400 and i was peeling into 3rd

At the track, depending on if you are running the 1/8 or the 1/4 will tell you of you need to go to 3rd gear. When I ran I had to go to 3rd.

Since its your first time taking it to the track I would recomend not punching it down in 1st right away so you can get the feel of it and control the hops if any. Thats if you can get a couple of runs in.

Well I went. The track was really slick. It kept drizzling on and off all day. I ran a 14.4 at 97mph and I WOT shifted to 3rd and 4th. Kinda dissappointed me, but oh well. My 60 ft times were 2.3. Not too good. I think I am going to go back on a nicer day.
