Drawbacks with even higher octane?
I was wondering; Are there any drawbacks/problems with running 104 or higher octane unleaded fuel in high octane mode with stage 2? I know it's calibrated for 100 octane, and I have run that a couple times with good results, but sunoco 100 octane is a 45 minute drive away, and the local speedshop just got in 104 unleaded.

No, if you have s2 with toys. With toys, when you turn on the 100+ button, that tells the ECU to shoot a hotter spark to the plugs, which increases HP. As if you dont, you will have build-up on you O2 sensor. Though, it doesnt hurt the car if you run 100 oct every now-n-then

Thanks Roach, But - I knew that, bro. I have toys and run it with 100 octane when in HOM. I understand what HOM does, but I was just wondering if there were drawbacks to using 104 instead of 100 - since I can get 104 very easily.

nope, no drawbacks. you'll feel a difference when you're not in HOM however since the higher octane fuel is harder to burn, so you'll be slightly slower with it in. but if you're only putting in a few gallons for the track or a race, then it's not a problem.
actually with s2 you can get away with like 98 octane, it doesn't seem to really require 100+. s3 however seems to require 104+ before it kicks you out. i'm using C16 just to be sure

I didn't think about the loss of power in regular mode. Good point. I will probably run a full tank of it so I might just take the extended drive for the 100 octane; really I just want to have some fun - not necessarily going to the track this weekend.

. Plus - I like my O2 sensor. Isn't that stuff 6 grams blue lead to the gallon? I don't have a cat, right now, but it would destroy th eo2 sensor pretty quickly, right(I have heard like 4 tankfuls)?

it doesn't destroy the o2's that quick. if you run it every once in a while it won't cause a problem as long as there's no cat for it to destroy!
just about any race shop should carry vp fuels or cam2. check vp's site for a distributor near you. i got mine at a motorcycle shop locally. if you don't want to use a leaded gas, see if they can order you a can of motorsport 109.

Looks like I have good timing - My local speedshop finished taking in their delivery of vp 100 octane unleaded.

it's better than sunoco. vp fuels are one of the best race fuels that you can use, as their octane ratings are always correct as they are mixed in batches and then put in the cans. at sunoco, you can't be 100% sure that 100 octane is really 100 octane. vp will even mix special fuels for you if you contact them directly!
VP is far better than Sunoco in my opinion. Sunoco uses alot of ether in ther fuel, and Im not a big fan. As far as to high an octane, theres alot that goes into what octane to use, inlet air temps, altitude, humidity. If you over Octane the engine, like PSIchick said it will slow you down a little, some days you may need a little bump in octane over 100, just play with it and see what the car likes. I used to run VP 99 motor octane I think it was called Motorsport 103 and added some Torco accelerator, 1 can would bump 5 gallons of the VP to about 107-109, so I could "tune" the fuel at the track. A number of buddys run 91 pump gas and a can of Accelerator which is like 105 octane in the 100 octane mode and they like it.
