I know this is an old thread, but I was just bored and browsing and found it- just thought I'd clear up something- if you use your key to unlock it it does deactivate the alarm- you do NOT have to use the key fob. The only way the alarm will activate is if you open the door from the inside. It is correct that there are no shock sensors. Also, on the other forum it talks about high costs if you lose your fob, which isn't true- same price as usual, 40 bucks or so (which is still far too much), they just reprogram the fob to the car- but like I said, it isn't required. I know because I've tried every possible combo to get my alarm to go off (short of breaking the window) and it only goes if you get in, activate it, wait for it to set, and then open the door. Unlocking it with the key deactivates the alarm.
Anyway, thought someone might be interested...

Barneydriver, mine does not deactivate when I use the key. I had mine turned on after readying about it from this post, and if I use the key to unlock the door, my alarm activates and the horn starts going off.

Same here. One caution about aftermarket systems. One owner on the SRTforums had a system put in. They, having no experience wiht turbo engines, saw no reason not to run a wire for the system right above the turbo. Melted, minor damage, fixed, but do be aware. Not that many factory turbos, a lot of installer might not be aware.

Sorry guys- I certainly don't mean to pass misinformation- mine didn't do that, but maybe I didn't give it long enough to set before I opened it. Now I'll have to try again tomorrow.

17 seconds, I think, is the arm time. The red led changes its flashing pattern.

Yeah- I'm a dork- sorry about that- I did indeed get mine to go off today by opening it with the key- guess I didn't give it enough time last time. Don't I feel sheepish...[sm=smiley24.gif]

The anti theft is actually in the key. If the car is started without the properly programed key, the car will run for three seconds and kill. You can have a key made at a key shop and it will start, then die. The key needs to be programed also.
