Default Basic maintenance-oil

I’m going to get my first oil change. Is my dealer going to use the right oil. The first oil change is free so I want to use it. At the same time I’m old enough to know I have no way of knowing. Kinda funny though, they can use the wrong oil, then it’s my OCC that voided my warranty. Any input? Are certain filters great and others bad? Which ones? At my dealership (Sherman Dodge in Skokie, IL) the service manager is very handsome and persuasive but the **** that comes out of his lips is not encouraging or supportive. Does not seem to know WTF is up! Everything voids the warranty., that’s my opinion!!!

Not sure what filter the srt-4 uses, but I use the e-2004 filter or whatever letter it is that's the K&N one used for the viper in my neon along with full synthetic mobil1. not the 15000 mile stuff though, haven't tried it but i plan on trying it out and seeing if it can hold out for at least 10k miles assuming i don't get the srt-4 first lol

use the mopar filter, it actually seems to work the best on our cars. as for oil, i would definetly suggest going with the mobil 1 or a similar full synthetic. if you're going to have it done at the dealer, most only carry mobil 1 as their only full synthetic, so use that. what weight to use is really up to you, and everyone has an opinion on that one. some use 10w30, others 5w30. personally i use 0w40 because the guy who designed and built our cars told me that was what i should use, and i believe him.

10w 30 with a Wix or Napa gold filter. Napa filters are made by Wix. I have only heard good thing about Wix.

0w40 is only 10 more than the stock oil recommendation for hot weight, which is 5w30. I run 0w20 in the winter, and currently I'm running Royal Purple FS 5w30, and yes its actually purple LOL. I've only used Mobil 1 on my car, and have had a Fram, AC Delco, Mobil 1, and Mopar filter....and to be honest, the mopar one works best.

If your not in tight with the dealer make sure you ask to speak to the shop foreman or the tech to make sure they're using the proper viscosity and syn, if they don't use it, you WILL be able to tell.

Thanks for all you’re help! I understand cold weight vs. hot weight so what’s up? I’m confused. Cold weight is starting only!
