Default Turbo Heat Shield Removal?

I read a recent post that a member had experienced briken bolts when trying to remove the heat shield? I want to upgrade my wastegate but need to check first on how tight or heat brittle the heat shield bolts may be? The access to them looks reasonable.

They are not brittle. But like any the bolts, heating n cooling will start losing its strength. Also, if you wash ya engine, like i do, when removing the bolts, cause of potential rust, its good to have some WD-40 handy and work the hardware in....

I know I have had mine on and off many times, and never had a problem, they are jsut a little hard to crack at first. Prep them after removing and it won't be so hard next time. I am down to 3 of 5 bolts, now, though, because I am tired of the 2 that are a little hard to reach.

Definitely get yourself a ratcheting box end. It helps a lot.

My advise is do it when the motor is stone cold. If they dont want to loosen, try tightening them SLIGHTLY to break them free. If they feel too tight, get the WD-40 soak going, and work them back and forth like you would a thread tap...until they are out. Good luck.

A little PB spray is always a help in getting off stubborn bolts, too.

Here it is, as Paul said, it makes WD40 look like water. I know the label looks like a Saturday Night Live skit, but trust us here. I have found it both at my local Wal-Mart and Big Lots. I have used it for a couple of years now, even fasteners with 30 years of resistance fall to it's might

Bow to the mighty PB

Love my PB - Don't mind that fact that on top of its use as a tension inhibitor (break loose) it is great as a rubber/poly prep on bushings...We all know that WD its name from its original use, wing de-icer...and how good it works on a number of things, PB blows it away - it was even created with its purpose being a penetrating catalyst.

I agree - that label is like it is out of a comicbook.
