Yeah Im having tranny issues too. Always been difficult to get it into 3rd, and occasionally I have to skip it and skim to fourth because the shifter refuses to go. However downshifting into third I can SMELL the transmission.....and to me, thats not a good thing.
But right now with all the oil burning and the fact that my "turbo's gone" and my engines "half gone" according to my tarded dealer, Ive got a bigger issue. Apparently too much oil is in the turbo (as they state....Im not sure if its truth). And its "safe to drive, however this will blow your engine in a short amount of time if its been going on for a week or two and getting progessively worse" I give up. I baby the car and have every issue in the world.
So no, your not alone. Someone overhaul mine for me
or just get me a damned new one. Trannys stink.....im used to the burning oil smell, but the tranny smell is horrid.

That'll be Great!! cause i rather mod the tranny before any issues come abroad... Is there a company in perticular how are doing these/this MOD?

Getting back to you with an update on mine, Seems I broke a key off of a shaft called a blocker that moves the fork in and out. I don't know how or why that broke. I'm a little concerned though because they won't tear the whole transmission down to look for other problems I've been having like getting into 3rd gear. The fork and that shaft are under a little access plate and the broken key was laying on top so thats the reason they stopped there. So far it's repaired under warranty except I had to pay for the upgraded clutch.
Im at 25,000 miles but Ive been having problems with third for the past 10k or so.....recently getting way worse.
If I were you T Id demand that they inspect the entire transmission, and overhaul anything else that need be.

Trust me, I argued with the mech. and service mang. and since it's a warranty job they don't wont to spend any more time or money on it if they don't think they need to. That's what I tried to tell them. How do you know that there isn't more than one problem just because you fix the first thing you see wrong. The only answer I get is after it's back running and it still doesn't shift right, then they will take it back out. That pisses me off because I won't my car back. Why not just do a little preventive maint. now instead of having to tear it all back out again with several more days of waiting.

FINALLY, i see a car thats nice to me. The SRT-4 and after reading this its kinda scary to buy one now. So all these problems, which year are the SRT-'4 that you are having problems on?? I am thinking that it is the throw out bearing, when thats not working and you "force" it into gear, thats when it goes bad. It puts the bearing out of place, then the more you move it out of space the less it the gears will go in. More friction in it, it wears out and eventually will loosen the hole and thats when the tranny starts breaking down. EEK!![>:] I dont think that the throw out bearing are that good of quality, but who knows. Anway anyone have problems with the 04-05 models?? i have done research and no recalls yet on these beauties! anyone help??Oh yeah when buying a new car, always buy a better clutch other than OEM clutch through the dealer
BEST choice you can ever make! it saves time and money on the spot already! not to mention, I HATE and i mean I HATE arguing with dealers!! well my .02 cents..
Report it to the BBB

domestic_rice - so don't buy one. i'm seriously getting tired of these "there are so many problems, i'm scared to buy one!" posts. of course there are problems, every car has problems. you only read about the problems on these forums, not cars that are working just fine. considering that there are over 20k srt's floating around out you're not going to get a post from every owner saying "car's working fine, just thought i'd let you know".
meanwhile car companies such as subaru, audi, infinity, and volkswagon, who are known for their "good" cars are toping the lemon list.
sorry, rant off. i just get tired of reading this stuff all the time, and it seems to be everywhere the last month or so.
