Default wheel question and tire recommendation?

I was wondering what the two measurements of the wheel sizes mean. For example, the 225 in a 225/60 wheel refers to wheel width right? What does the 60 represent? Also could someone recommend an all around good 225 tire. Snow is not a problem where i live so that is not a factor. Also will 225 tires rub?

225/40ZR18 My tire size.

225 is the width in millimeters from left to right i.e. outside of the car to inside the wheel well.

40 is the height of the sidewall in millimeters from the rim to the tread depth.

Z is the speed rating, H is a passenger tire, this car calls for Z rated tires.

R means its a passenger car

18 is the size of the wheel itself.

225 tires do not rub at all. I have them on my car. The BFGoodrich G-Force sports. I had Toyo Proxes 4 and fkn hated them to death. So I traded them and got the BFG's and I couldn't be happier. They're the best dry handling tire in their class, and in the wet their awesome as well. Their my recommendation.

225 is the metric width of the TIRE across the tread in millimeters. Manufacturing tolerances can be +/- 10 mm from one maker to another.
60 is the ASPECT RATIO. It is a percent value meaning the height of the tire from the rim (bead) to the tread is 60% of the width. So.... a 225mm wide tire at 60% height will be 135 mm tall (bead to tread).
The letters are the speed rating plus details.
The last number is the rim size (diameter) (in INCHES).
None of the numbers on the side of the tire tell you anything about your rim width. For example, you could mount a 215, 225 or 235mm wide tire on a 7 INCH wide rim. Only one of these may be ideal for your vehicle and that may also depend on what aspect ratio you choose as well.
If you want to know how wide the rim is, you either measure it or look for the size cast or stamped into it somewhere usually on the non-cosmetic side.
Lastly, yes I know for a fact 225 tires will fit, but they are very close. I have a set on my car. HOWEVER, I dont think you can get 225s on the stock rims, or at least you should not try. I went to an aftermarket rim that was wider and has a smidge more offset to the outside to be able to get the 225's on. I also went to a SMALLER diameter rim (16 inch) to be able to get more of a sidewall for shock absorption. Many would think this to be a step backwards from the lower profile 17's but I like the results A LOT. The tire I chose was a 225-55-16 Fuzion ZRI and is an excellent tire for the money. Gobs of grip and much smoother and quieter than the stock BF Goodrich's.

Is there any way that you could post a pic of this wheel and tire combo of yours? I think that's a great idea, and i would love to see how it looks.

Sorry - I had to bust, LilSpark.

I am running 225 45-27's too.

I have the motegi Traklites in 17x7 and Toyo Proxes T1-S. I am very happy with them. Better grip, quiet ride, Incredible in rain...I can't say enough good things about hte new setup.
