Found some good octane booster!
Hey everyone. I was in AutoZone yesterday killing time, and looking to spend some money as usual. I was looking at the octane boosters, N0s has a new "race" formula that raises octane 60 points ( 6 octane numbers!! ) to 15 gallons of gasoline.
That's the best point rating I've ever seen. The next best was 10 points ( 1 octane number, a waste if money)
The bottle was $11.00, pretty reasonable. The only ???? in my thoughts is the formula states it has a shot of Nitro Methane.
NITRO METHANE!!!!!! It states safe for O2 sensors and converters.

Good stuff in some senses - I thought it was methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl, not nitro methane, though. (mmt) It is made by the ethyl corporation the same people who brought us leaded gasoline back in the middle of the century.
Actually it is the same racing formula they have always used. I thought the same thing when I first saw it. Funny thing is that the package on some bottles says 60 points(on the new ones), and some say 7, even though they are the same. I just bought 2 bottles with the same part number, and I am looking at them as we speak- one is 7 points and one is 60. Definitely same product with a different label. Go figure, gotta love the marketeers. Nos racing is good stuff though. One note - Lucas Octane booster is pretty much the same stuff, if you can find it (pep boys...) for a few $ less. Those of us running HOM a lot with s2 know these both well.
Now starts my new rant:
Consider the following, though - I have been doing a lot of reading about the stuff - which is used in all gasoline in Canada and there can be issues as a result:
1.Catalyst plugging.
2.Spark plug fouling at low mileage intervals resulting in frequent cleaning and early replacement. Engines operating under load are particularly vulnerable. Problems are evident with standard, copper tip, and platinum tip spark plugs.
3.Carburetor base plate passages plugging with deposits.
4.Carburetor idle fuel air passages plugging with deposits.
5.Fuel injector malfunction due to coatings on pintle and orifice.
6.Combustion chamber deposits requiring head removal and decarbonizing.
7Gum ball formations in fuel. When this M.M.T. additive was first used we started receiving complaints about vehicles experiencing engine failure on the highway. Investigation revealed that this gummy substance was plugging fuel filter screens, clogging fuel tank filters, sticking and seizing carburetor power valves, and plugging carburetor jets and metering rods. These problems caused frequent carburetor overhauls, often at the customer’s expense.
These are definitely issues to consider, and I may stop using the stuff after some more consideration, even though it is a low cost alternative to a tank of vp 105+.
Also there "could" be serious health issues. Inhaled Manganese is a powerful neurotoxin at high levels, and continued exposuere to it could lead to mental problems, like brain damage, and motor function loss(similar to parkinsons disease).
Here are some of the many comments about the stuff:

Just food for thought. I know I am thinking after running many many tanks of it.

I saw the full line of Lucas products there too. Pep Boys and AutoZone is carrying them. Question....is that lucas stuff any good? I mean all of their products, not just octane boost.
Funny about the two bottles with different ratings. I wonder if U use it with cheap fuel vs good fuel if it makes a difference in how much it actually improves octane. MBTE is the usual chemical used, and I know there is a limit to how much should be in there.

I think they are just using a different method to test on the nos products.
I expanded my answer in the original post, so check it out if you are interested.
torco is the best booster out there, especially for hom purposes

Great stuff on that repost Posthonda! Scared the hell out of me, I wont be using that anymore! LOL Seriously, I'd like to see a scientific test on all this snake oil places are trying to sell us. That Torco stuff....must be speed shop only? I have never seen it in parts stores.
I've heard of the MMT, but I see MBTE on the pumps around here. Anyone know the difference between the two?

Torco - been putting off getting some, looks like it is time to order. - where do we get it? I want to know, as well. I looked at their site and they don't have the additives listed. Thinking about getting some tolulene, as well, but I don't know if I want to be mixing it myself.
