Default smoke from under hood????

OK THis is a little late but I just remembered this. Right before Katrina hit I was in New Orleans and was told to leave. So it took me 10 hours to go 100 miles. While I was in traffic I noticed that there was a big puff of white smoke that came from under the hood while my car was running alittle hot. It wasn't overly hot just like from normal driving hot. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this happen to them...... My car still runs fine so I dont think it was much. But I think this is to the more experinced car guru's..

Thanks for your help

Maybe a bit of steam from the overflow? You were standing still and the car was a little hot.

You should not smell the clutch/tranny in any car at idle or traffic unless you don't know how to drive a stick. That would mean that you are burning the clutch.

Actually the tranny was leaking, just had it flushed, that would be why I smelt it and had the little bit of smoke. I do know how to drive a standard and at 32,000 miles my clutch is in perfect condition.

I wasn't saying you didn't. I just meant that if you smell the clutch something is wrong.

I agree, the "nose knows".....unless you were smelling someone else's car which is possible given you were stuck in traffic.....
