Texas car -> Californa emissions
Damn RPSIGUY: So it's vin based??? can't you just get a stage computer upgrade or something??? If not that sux for californians. I can't believe it is that tough, though.
I might move to the West Coats at some point in the near future, and it would suck royally if I couldn't register my car there.

Are you sure??? What about people that move into CA? I can't imagine that they're just SOL and would have to sell their car or something.
What exactly is the difference between a California vehicle and a non CA vehicle?

Well, I ask because I know of a dealer in Texas, sponsor from another forum I post at, and was talking about getting my SRT through them and he said their cars dont have California emissions and I would have to find someone to do whatever needs to be done to make it CA legal. Which I suppose could be as simple as having it smog tested, or complicated and expensive as having different emissions equipment installed which is why I want to find out what exactly would have to be done.
I can get my car local as well so its not a huge deal, but its all about saving a few bucks.

You need to look at the emission tag under the hood to see if it says federal and california. You can bring a car into that state without
cal emissions. New car dealers can't sell federal cars over there.
Thats why here in RI we have to order all CA emission packages because if we swap with a dealer from NY or MA, it has to have CA emissions. MA, CT, and NY have all adopted the CA standard.
It's silly but the reason they don't certify all cars to CA standards is because they have to warranty some emission components longer than with federal standards.
It's all about the almighty $$$$$$$$$$
