Default oil leak

has anybody else found a small oil leak around the fitting on the intercooler exit hose? If so, is there a good way to have it fixed? I was just going to take it to the dealership and have them look at it but if you have any good ideas let me know.

You never put on an oil catch can did you? This is oil blow-by past the PCV valve that gets into the intake tube and then gets all over inside the intercooler and it's hoses. The cheapest easiest fix would be to get an oil catch can, they are easy to install. Check Modern Performance for them.[sm=smiley2.gif]

Wipe it clean and tighten the hose clamp. Definately get an oil catch can or make one. I plan on doing that this week. I know that there is a $20 catch can mod somewhere on the net. Do a search, any catch can will do the trick.

thank, I had thought about that and looked at pictures and it never occured to me that the oil could be coming from that far away. I will definately look into an oil catch can.

Well, yes and no. There are different sizes out there. The space in an SRT-4 engine bay is tight to say the least. My GReddy can just barely clears the fan belt by about 1/4 of an inch. I'm going to build the $20 one and see which I like better. [sm=smiley5.gif]

I got an even cheaper "catch can" that I used on my vw rabbit diesel, that thing blew like an sob. Just get a piece of hose long enough to be routed to the underside of the car, and let it dump the oil on the pavement, it is only going to be a very small amount, unless your car is sick, then you have other problems. So what if the blow by isn't getting reburned, the stage 1 and 2 and other mods make your car non emition compliant anyways. I agree though that a catch can is nicer, looks and enviornmentally as well. But for the price of a piece of hose, it can be fixed till on can be bought. also remember to seal off any openings no longer used. PEACE

If I can't find the parts I need at "Pimp Boys" (Pep Boys), I just might try that, I've got 3 extra feet of hose. I'm just uncomfortable with that can sitting sooooo close to the fan belt...I might see if taking off the "sight glass" gives me more room. If it does, I can seal off the holes and empty it every few months....heck, it holds almost a quart!!!

I noticed a small spot of oil in the garage and got to looking under my car. On the very front of the frame, under the intercooler, is had some oil on it. I have sense noticed a few more drops in the garage... Will putting the catch can on their stop that or is there more to it?

I haven't heard of any oil leaks with the SRT-4 other than the"blow by" past the PCV valve....I'm not really happy with my GReddy oil can, and am going to get the parts for the $20.00 catch can mentioned earlier in this thread...you can link to it at one of my above postings.....let us know if it fixes your leak....[sm=smiley20.gif]
