Winter Words for the Wheel Wise
Tried to tell ya pressure, sorry. DISCOUNT TIRE DIRECT was worth it. what you ended up with is a lot of grief searching down crap that you cant use and will be taking up space, and the new tires rub to boot (bummer). Sidewall profile (not overall dia) is where its at on winter tires, that is what allows the tread to flex and clean itself. Lil is right on the money carbussard, send us a link to tireracks steel wheel snow tire package so we can all see how cheap they are and if they even offer a steelie.
You may be right about discount as a package deal, (for price) but I went to the local Discount Tire Co. dealer and looked at a set of thier Hankooks and did not like them. That was all they had in my price range and that was even higher than what I paid. I got the tires I thought to be the best for my money and yes I could have sized them one smaller, but I will stand pat on the idea that tall and skinny is the way to go in the snow. The rub was very minor and I knew they would do it when I inspected the fit while the car was on the rack. I told them it would be close before they even put them on. They do not rub at all now. Also, due to the extremely cool people at Morris Rose auto parts here in Kalamazoo, I was able to try without having to buy the 2002 Neon rims. So I'm out nothing there. I do regret slightly not being able to find any steels or even cheap aluminums to use as a dedicated set though. The junkyards here are small and not very well rounded parts wise. I will keep looking though.
Now what sizes can you get PT cruiser or beetle steel rims in?

The URL for Tire Rack is http://www.tirerack.com. Yes, the have steel. They do a great job of giving you a choice of tires and wheels. In my general checking around locally, they're quite "competitive" pricewise. And with the winter tire package, I like the way they come on the back of the ol' UPS truck, mounted, balanced and ready to go.
They also test and rate tires, and, ahem, tell you what fits. They have some good writeups on dos and don'ts of winter tires. I put Bridgestone Blizzaks on my wife's Audi A4/sport suspension. There's not a lot of ground clearance, but I stayed stock rolling diameter lest I confuse the AWD and have it do something evil.
Most of the time, deep snow isn't the problem, but the packed and glazed up stuff, and the Blizzaks are really good at that. We're not on a township road so we have to clear the snow ourselves. I have a big snowblower (8 hp!) which means another motor to play with--I'm thinking decking the block, a Weber carb, header... But I digress. The Audi with the Blizzaks and AWD does a good job of dragging its belly through the snow. My old 4WD AeroStar was just about unstoppable.

No site lists them for the SRT-4. Find something thats 15x6/7 5x100 and a 41+ offset. Like what discount tire direct has.
I have spacers on all four of mine, the two cavi steelies, and the two stratus steelies (off a 95)

I will be checking it out but since I bought tires to fit my aluminum 16's, that is the size I'll be looking for now. Also, The 15" steel Neon rim I had may have cleared with a spacer, but I will not use spacers. So what I'll be looking for is a 16x7 steel w/41mm offset.
Thanks for all the input.

Due to my current debt situation, I will be forced into just putting snow tires on my stock SRT-4 wheels. I am going to get the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25's in a 205/50/VR17 size. If anyone has used these let me know how well they did or didn't do.
Heres what my baby looks like right now. First snow fell the other day, only about 3", got another 1" today and more to come Friday. I have the bra from autoanything.com on there too, though its hard to tell in these pix.

I really like the mad max purposefulness of the black steelies. Looks like you're ready to do some winter rallying. You need more snow like we're getting here though. Been snowing for days light and heavy. Really starting to pile up. Lake near my house is about half frozen.
