Yeah the guy I went to is a one man exhaust shop. He's not part of a national franchise or anything. You oughta seen the way his eyes lit up when he looked at my exhaust on my SRT. He has never done a performance exhaust on a car such as ours. He really wants to do it. The stuff he showed me for fart cans was all kinds of different stuff he had in his catalogs. 99% of which he has never used so he could not tell me about sound /performance etc. I believe the guy knows his craft and can bend pipe as good as anybody. He did also have stainless 2.5 in his shop but said he would have to order the 3. His muffler products were all the typical stuff you would find available at most shops, but it seems the lions share of his customers are Chevy/Ford truck driving farmers who either go stock replacement, or duals w/ flowmasters. (believe me I know how they sound as most of his customers are my neighbors) Who'dda thought rural Kalamazoo was not the mecca for tricked out tuner cars? Go figure.
Remember this; an exhaust that rots out in 5 years is also an excuse to get a newer better one.
I will be fast, stainless or not!
Does he have/will he be using a mandrel bender to bend the exhaust? He doesn't sound like a performance shop, so that would be surprising. If so - sweet. If not - it would be pointless. I looked into having a mandrel bent stainless 3" system custom fabbed and it was pretty costly.
If he is talking about crush/crimp bent pipes(whether made to bend or not) you will end up with an exhaust that flows no better than any 2.5" system. (Just a note for anyone looking into custom, really)

Oh no. We're country, but we ain't that country. He's got a real nice shop. Clean paved floors and everything.
Yes, he has a mandrel bender. The guy know his business. He could do ya a work of art musclecar exhaust. Most shops around here could. It's just I have the same problem as Word down Kentucky way. There is NOBODY driving performance front wheel drive cars around here. I never see other SRT-4's. The dealer I bought the car from has never even done a stage anything upgrade. To say these cars are not popular here is an understatement. If I had a Mustang/Camaro/Firebird I would have no shortage of local talent to use. My SRT-4 is usually the only SRT anyone around here has ever seen.

Sounds sweet.

Hey man - sounds like your "country" shop is a lot better than most around Philly. Mandrel benders are hard to find and expensive around here. I was quoted more like 900 for a mandrel bent stainless system with dual muff's. What muffler are you thinking about using?

Well the thing is, sound level and quality is important to me. I want flow but I dont want loud. If I could run a hooker aerochamber like I have on my Dodge Truck, that's what I would do. They flow, they sound good and are not obnoxiously loud. However, they do not come in a "bullet" or single inlet, dual outlet configuration. I do also want to have dual tips because the valance already has the cutouts and because it's kind of an SRT-4 signature thing. I, like PSI, am not a big fan of the whole fart can look either(though a have heard her car on the video clip and it does sound nasty)(good nasty) but it is also a bit on the loud side. I am thinking, as the muffler guy suggested, of running a bullet like a dynomax in the stock location and doing the dual tips after the axle. This is both good and bad. Good because it will be easier for him to do, and I would only be buying 1 muffler and 2 tips but bad because I am quite sure with a 3" pipe and a bullet, it will be too loud. PSI Chicks dual fart cans may have the edge on quiet. I dont know how effective 2 bullets inline would be. There are also oval section mufflers with outlets on both ends like a stock Camaro setup or the one that HP racing shows in thier ad. I was told to stay away from HP though. But being that this is going to be custom and some time away yet, I can shop and mix and match. I will probably go with an off the shelf DP like needswings or maxfab, I will also be going catless, I can also get my muffler/s from anywhere and have the muffler guy fit it in.
So to answer your question, I don't really know yet, anything is possible. About the only thing I'm sure of is it will be 3".
