exhaust borla or custom
i am ready to get new exhaust and i wanted to go with the mopar borla but i dont like the fact that it is in 2.5" pipe so i was considering going to a local shop and getting custom 3" exhaust what do you guys think..
It depends on how far you want to go with the car. If you are looking at Stage III with higher boosts you need a free'er flowing 3" Turbo Back, but if you're looking to stay with what you have the Borla is fine.
I had the Borla before and personally I enjoyed it, but it's all about what type of performance you're looking to get outta your SRT.

If you are always going to stay under 320 hp or so the borla is fine and Cheap, to boot.
If the 3" isn't mandrel bent, and is instead, of the crush bent variety, stay away. A crush bent 3" pipe is a lot more restrictive than a mandrel bent 2.5".
The 2.5 inch is just fine for anything short of 300HP. A "custom" system is going to cost you a bunch more with little or no gain over the Mopar/Borla system. I'm very happy with mine and my only gripe is having to adjust the tips every year or so......

Yeah going from 2.25 to 2.5 seems like a waste of time and ultimately money. I am gonna go straight to 3 when I do.
I can get a custom 3 done in galvanized for under 400 here. I can also get it done in stainless but that will add considerabley to the cost, like 200 or more depending a lot on the brand and style of the fart cans or mufflers I choose. The fart cans alone can be about 50 bucks apiece. You can go cheap custom, or really expensive custom. A galvanized steel system will be good for about 5 years or so around here. (Mi.).

if you're buying a $50 fart can, you're either getting a really good deal or a crappy muffler.
i would always recommend going with stainless if you can. while it does add to the cost of the system, you don't have to do it again in a few years.

watch out though, a couple guys in our club ChicagolandSRTClub have the MPX 3 inch turbo back and its a great loud system and all but it seem their brackets have bad welds and they crack off during our winter months. Me i went with the billy boat exhaust system, and man do i love it but its really expensive like $1200 but u can pick one up slighlty used for around $600 and their a great deal!
Yeah the guy I went to is a one man exhaust shop. He's not part of a national franchise or anything. You oughta seen the way his eyes lit up when he looked at my exhaust on my SRT. He has never done a performance exhaust on a car such as ours. He really wants to do it. The stuff he showed me for fart cans was all kinds of different stuff he had in his catalogs. 99% of which he has never used so he could not tell me about sound /performance etc. I believe the guy knows his craft and can bend pipe as good as anybody. He did also have stainless 2.5 in his shop but said he would have to order the 3. His muffler products were all the typical stuff you would find available at most shops, but it seems the lions share of his customers are Chevy/Ford truck driving farmers who either go stock replacement, or duals w/ flowmasters. (believe me I know how they sound as most of his customers are my neighbors) Who'dda thought rural Kalamazoo was not the mecca for tricked out tuner cars? Go figure.
Remember this; an exhaust that rots out in 5 years is also an excuse to get a newer better one.
I will be fast, stainless or not!
