Good question, especially since the dealerships were sent a bulletin about checking for an aftermarket wastegate as well as other things to try and deny warranty repairs. It would be more benefitial to modify the stock unit if possible to avoid the conflict.

It takes about 10 minutes to change a WGA. It is much safer to go with an AGP WGA instead of the spring mod.

It is very easy to adjust the AGP. The spring mod requires buying a spring you think is correct and then adjustiing it. It is very easy to overboost. If your vacuum lines are still stock, the ECU will start pulling boost. The AGP is designed to run directly from the turbo with a bleed or MBC. If you do do the mod, be carefull and don't boost too high. My advise is to spend the money and do it correctly.

well - we have a pre-tensioned wastegate arm. The spring mod involves taking it and running a spring from the arm to another anchor point, to boost resistance on the wg arm. If you are on a stoch ecu, this really isn't a good idea, since it isn't made to hold that much. a couple pounds is your max gain - and it will be unreliable. if you goof 1 psi too high and hit 18 by mistake you will actually go slower as the ecu retards the crap of your car to keep it from blowing up. If you goof much more than that you can really hurt things pretty bad.

See - I look at it this way - you just spent 20,000 on a car. Is the implied risk of doing the spring mod worth saving $150? I don't think so. Just go get stage 1 and start there...do things right. If you can't afford the mods, don't do them...you definitely won't be able to afford the repairs if that is the case.

I'd rock it at around 16-17 psi.

But I am pretty conservative with my tuning.

How much PSI can the engine take before you risk doing some serious damage?
