Default Needswings Catless Downpipe (Video)

Got it on Saturday and of course went out and put the thing on!

Installation is actually pretty damn easy. I had trouble finding a position to reach the 4th bolt, but when I finially did it came right off. Also a huge pain was trying to slide the stock downpipe out of the catback and then sliding the new DP in. I'm sure it's also a bit easier on a lift vs laying on your back on concrete doing it all, but it's overall not a very hard thing to do IMO.

After getting it on I decided to first test it out with the cutout closed... So when it was finially ready I fired it up and... WOW. First thing it's quite a bit louder than the mopar catback by itself was, both inside and out. Part throttle acceleration gets very loud about 3K, and theres plenty of pops and crackles while shifting and decelerating. The overall sound itself is basically the same as the mopar catback itself but even louder and deeper, and you can't not love the turbo whistle.

Heres a vid w/ cutout closed! And no, I wasn't racing the motorcycle lol

Then theres the cutout... LOL I had seen the videos, and new it was going to be loud... But I was not prepared for how loud it really is. I got back from my drive with it closed, so I crawled down there and opened it up - and yes I burned my finger the first time opening it because I'm a dumbass lol. I turn the car on and I sit there for a second and literally LOL. Then I take it out for a drive and it's just completely rediculous, but in a good way! The turbo is constant while cruising and idle, and I swear every person you pass looks at you and has this confused look on their face like WTF is going on. There is no quiet ever with it open, it's always just flat out loud. Don't have a video of it open yet, I'll get one soon and post it.

As far as power, I definetly feel some improvements both open and closed. With it open it burns the tires in the top of 1st and into second. I did try some runs on the gtech, but I'm getting very frustrated using that damn thing. It's rediculous trying to launch on the street for good timed 1/4 mile runs, and I was missing 4th gear like crazy for some reason. I'm thinking about hitting the track for test and tune, but that's $50 so I might just wait untill wednesday nights start back up in a couple weeks to try and get some good runs going.

Overall, Needswings is a great DP, price was great and quality seems great aswell. He'll also make it to fit whatever exhaust you want. I didn't think I'd need the e-cutout, so I didn't get one especially since I've heard they sometimes don't last long, but I'm starting to think it really is needed to fully enjoy the cutout. I wouldn't be able to stand it open all the time, but it'd be cool to open once in awhile or be able to close it quickly if needed. I can get it off without lifting the car but have to lift it to put it back on. It sucks either way though.

whew, long post

Thanks for the info, Andy. I had been anxiously awaiting your review of it. Hopefully, you can get some G-tech results on it before long, both open and closed. I am following how your mod's are decreasing your 1/4 mile times.

My question:

Did your downpipe have the cat or not? Also, on the Needswing downpipe, is the bottle neck removed on it like you said the Maxfabb one is?

I am THINKING about getting the Needswing and running it to the stock exhaust....for now. And you still aren't throwing any codes, right?

Word I love ya, but read the title of the thread darling "catless downpipe" Tee hee, no cat. You tardicus you.

You can run it to the stock exhaust, but the needswing doesnt just come in 3" it comes in smaller diameters too. I believe 2.5.

dammit, dammit, dammit LSP.....I swear....I am a tardacus.

I SWEAR,,,,once I opened the topic, I read through the damn thing TWICE to see if he mentioned if it was catless, and I didn't see where he said it. I THEN looked at the pic and I thought to myself, "Hmmm,,,,if there is a cat in that pic, I can't find it," because the pipe looked pretty skinny.

Damn,,,,why didn't I read the title better. Oh well,,,,certainly not the first time I've embarassed myself on these forums....LOL.

Good catch, LSP.
