Having problems at the line
Alright anything with tips please advise. I am having mad issues with my take-offs at the line. I peel out way too much. I've tried taking off at various RPM's but its either I have a heavy foot or something cus I can't seem to take off well. Anyone got some advice for me... it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm learning to. But everyone I've talked to said the key is a very low RPM take off, and ease your foot to the floor. 1500 to 1800 rpm max at launch. Then ease your foot to the floor to avoid going up in smoke. When I get it right, I still spin the tries a little bit in the top of 1st gear, more like a little tire hazing. I'm not going WOT until 3500 rpm. Maybe higher, I can't picture it sitting from here. I think a good goal is 2.1 to 2.2 60 foot times at the track with the stock wheel and tire combo.
Feather out your clutch, dont just dump it.
My car won't hook until the middle of 3rd gear. Thats what I get for turning the boost up way too high on the greddy and getting all confused about its settings. I've tried it all, it just WONT launch. I need some mounts or something. I wish I just spun slightly....thats not the case LOL

Definitely keep the rears up to 36 psi and drop the fronts to 20 lbs maybe a pound or two more or less depending on how stiff yer sidewall is. With the tires that low you should be able to launchat a clean 2000 rpm (remember to hold it at 2000 rpm not just rev it there). Feather the clutch out as you build rpms by feding it throttle. The best launch in this car will have you skittering (that is right skittering) for the edge of traction. When you hit it you'll know with a 2.0 or 60 on street tires adn you'll feel it. Once you groove it right and get the idea it'll get easier. Oh and get some motor mounts if you don't have 'em.
where are you at that the tracks open so late? we've been running for a month here already!
when i was running street tires i launched at about 1200 rpms and feathered it until i go good traction then went wot. this got me 60' times of 2.0-2.1 generally...

Tire Pressure: I got my best results on the stock Pilot Sports @ ~27psi. Inflate the rear to the maximum values indicated. This helps a tiny bit with the launch (the stiffer the rear the better). Going too low can be just as bad as running too much air. IMO 20psi is too low. If you take a thick piece of chalk, mark across the treads and then drive down the street in front of your house a little ways; then look to see where the chalk is gone. If it's gone from the middle only, let air out; if it's gone from the edges only, put air in. If it's gone all the way across the tread, the air is perfect; measure it and duplicate at the track.
With the stock computer controlling the boost:
Hold the car @ about 2500-3000 rpm (a 2 step rev limiter here helps). Without giving it any more gas, let the clutch out fast, but don't "drop the clutch." Wait for the car to start moving then gently roll into the gas. I never went WOT in 1st and usually short shifted out of 1st at about 5500-5800 rpm. Quickly shift into 2nd, letting off of the gas, then roll back into the gas once in gear, usually hitting WOT about 1/3 to 1/2 way through the gear. Then WOT shift to 3rd and WOT shift to 4th, both @ 5800-6000 rpm. This technique netted me 2.0 60's and 13.8's stock.
With a stiffer WGA and MBC, it's about the same except a little less RPM on the launch (2000-2500), and roll into the throttle a little easier. 2nd through 4th is about the same. I never did get back to 2.0 60's (on true street tires) w/ that setup, but I did get 2.1's, netting a best of 13.4@107 on street tires.

Great info M-Chat, thanks! I will put it to good use soon. Ya' Milan Dragway is the only track in SE Michigan. They always open on the first Saturday in April. There is also a BIG event that same day every year in downtown Ann Arobr, hash bash. Conflict? No, if the track is dry I'm racing.
