Default SRT-4 Towed in today

We had a SRT-4 towed in today At 20k miles
Found the splines in the right drive axle stripped!!!!
Now the owner admitted doing some "Hole Shots"
we are covering the repair under warranty but it looks like the drive axles might be a weak link in the driveline!!!!

Me personally i think that the entire driveline is a "weak link". Replace it with some good aftermarket axles or it will be back.

03 or 04? Just came across a reference today that stated that the 04s got stronger axles. Car and Drivers new magazine, called Boost. I highly advise picking it up, great tech articles. Mentioned on page 38, in an article about the SRT-4 rally car that they kept breaking axles, so they upgraded to stronger ones, that then became stock for 04s. The tranny is supposed to be pretty stout, though.

I'm not too worried about it, short of abuse like hole shots or massive amounts of power (350+ in my book) I think they are fine. Mine have 30K with no sparing of the power and an occasional quick tirespin, no issues.

I agree glhs837 and byebye, the "03s seem to be the only ones affected and even then, the numbers must be small, or otherwise there would have been a lot of "noise" on these forums and recalls from Mother Mopar.....[sm=smiley5.gif]

The year doesn't mean nearly as much as the other mods working together with the rest. Drive axles aren't a shock to see needing to upgrade either.
