Default Boost question

Call me dumb if you will. I dont know much about turbo cars..or how to read the gauges correctly.

I have an '05 SRT4, but i dont really know how to read the boost guage.

How do you read the guage???

here is a picture of the guage, not exact but i'm going to use it.

ok nevermind, i dont know how to post a picture. I'll try to explain

While idiling the guage sits on or around teh 20...as i go it gets up to 0 or past to about 5 no more...1st, 2nd, 3rd...never more then 0-5.

is there something wrong with my car. do i not know how to read it correctly.

I would really like to be educated on it.

Thanks

Vacuum is Minus (-) and Boost is Plus (+).

Your car should idle at -20 vacuum. And you should be boosting between 10-15 psi.

If you're only boosting 5psi, you are definetly leaking somewhere. Check all your vacuum lines coming from the solenoid, and also check your intercooler hoses (left side and ride side)...

Thank you!

Yes i thought maybe i was leaking but I dont really know where to look for leaks or anything. Could that be why i lose by a car length or more to other stock SRT's? not running full boost?

I'll check the boost when i leave work, see where it stops at...and i'll let you know tomorrow if i cant figure it out or something.

Yea you lose a good amount of HP that way.

I had the same problem a few months back. I was boosting about 8psi and dropping...

I found out my left side intercooler hose was halfway off...

put it back, clamped it down nice and tight and wallah...with my S2 and AGP Wga I boost around 18 psi.

How hard are you gassin her to get to the 5psi boost?
Normal driveing youll get up to 5psi but if you hammer on her some you should peak round 15psi.

If your getting only 5psi during hard acceleration then you have a leak. But normal driveing 5psi is normal to get up to.

Thats a good question but from memory, regular driving is between 0-4 and gunning it is around 5 or so. i'll verify on way home and let you know.

at what RPM should it peak up to 10-15 psi? when hammering it?

when at like 300rpm in 3rd gear and you step on it (full throttle) you should be reading between 10-15 psi. with no leaks it should be 14psi. some srt-4s have read 16-17 psi.
