Default Fuel filter, location

Its not in the tank is it???? or is it???? my dealership couldnt give me a straight answer on where it was....they actually said it was in the tank and it never needs to be changed or replaced(YA RIGHT!!!). I want to know because i think thats a route to a starting problem.

You have to drop the entire tank, make sure your as close to empty as possible, and replace it that way. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you had a lift and something to put the gas in, its not the easiest task.

Just let them do it, trust me.

it's actually not as hard as you think. you do have to drop the tank, so just make sure that you're as low on gas as you can get. jack the car up and put some stands under her. then unbolt the tank (which is actually only held on by i think four bolts anyway) and drop the tank. the pump, filter, and level are all one assembly. just pop that out the top then swap the filter. replace it back in the tank and bolt here back together. we swaped my whole fuel assembly in like 20 minutes.

why do you think you need to replace the filter anyway?

because i think its dirty and needs a a new one, when i start my car(no matter what the temp) it surges first, it goes up to 200 rpm stops for a second and then revs up to idle. Its annoying me and I asked a few mechanics and they all said its the fuel filter. I just replaced plugs and wires, its just troubleshooting from here...im going to check my injectors and maybe give them a cleaning if needed.

surging when you start the car would have nothing to do with the fuel filter.... if it was dirty/clogged your car would either cut out and run like **** or not run at all.

Well I'm not there to hear and look at the car but I would say there isnt even anything to troubleshoot. Every fuel injected vehicle I've owned surges a little bit on startup, hell my explorer with a 302 jumps up a bit over 1.5k rpm if not more on start up, but like I said, I'm not there so its a bit hard to say.
