Default Dealer Oil

Just a FYI for any of you who are required to take your SRT-4 to the dealer for the first 15 months or 15,000 miles to get the oil changed for "free" every 3 months or 3,000 miles.

The dealer does NOT install Mobile 1 as a matter of routine. I wrote a letter to my dealer asking them if I was wasting money supplying my own Mobil 1 for these mandatory changes and they replied no, they would be charging me extra if I asked THEM to supply the Mobil 1. They also stated they would install Quaker State dino oil if I didn't supply my own Mobil 1. This kinda sucks, since THEY recommeded Mobil 1 when I bought it and the owner's manual recommends it as well. USE CAUTION!!!![:@][:'(]

I'll have to ask about that when I take mine in for it's first change. If they were to even come near one of my cars with anything except Mobil 1 or Castrol, I would kill them before they could get the first bottles seal broken.[:@]

when i took my srt in for it's first oil change they recommend mobil 1 as that's how it came from the factory or they could put in mopar's brand. But i bought their coupon book for the first 12 oil changes for a $100.00 when i first bought the car, and the coupon they send in to mopar is refunded back to the dealership $15.50 using mopar's oil, and filter and the cost of labor. But it doesn't cover synthtic oil. So I worked it out with the dealership to pay the difference in the price the oil. Witch left me with a $25. dollar bill instead of paying 40+ for oil, filter and labor. But it might be cheaper to buy a case of mobil 1 & pay for the filter and labor at the dealership or do it yourself. Witch is what i would do if i had the time.

Yeah, when I told the dealer I could get Mobil 1 at the base for about $4.95 a quart, he said "that's a bargin"....I'm sure the dealer price would be almost double that.....

Every time I take my SRT-4 in for the oil change, I stand right by the engine bay (oil changes are done in a separate area from the service area) to watch them pour MY OIL in the engine. They tend to do a little better job when they know you are watching....[sm=smiley5.gif]

Best deal I know of on Mobil 1 is usually Wal-Mart, about 20 for a five quart bottle. Of course, then you have to make another trip to Advance (for K&N) or AutoZone (for Mobil 1) for a filter. Or the dealer if you use the Dodge filter. Even at it's most exspensive, I pay around $30 for my changes.

Amsoil is an excellent oil, especially seeing how it is very easy to get it at dealer pricing. Were I previously worked, we did a study on different oil filters on the market. We actually bought different oil filters out there and cut them open. The best oil filter we found to have the best protection was the NAPA Gold series oil filters. Dealer oil filters were next. I have NAPA filters on all my vehicles including my ZX-9R. I also use them because I get them at employ cost also(sister works for NAPA).

Yeah, I did the dealer thing with Amzoil as well. There was a study of oil filters on another forum and Fram oil filters did the worst while Wix and Napa Gold did the best. According to the study, Fram also makes the Mopar filters......[:'(]

in response to rr71 - count one dead service man. I stopped him just before he put the regular crap in the engine. He didn't believe me when I said use mobil 1 - that is what the manual said. I had to make him do it! Almost forcefully! I can't believe dodge mechanics don't know better. This IS their car. It only reinstates my opinion that new car dealer service bays succccccck!

Anyone surprised? - I'm not.
