I had the same problem with the decklid, had mine repainted by the dealer's body shop for free. Which they CAN and will do for you, for absolutely nothing under the warranty. (3/36 or full extended). It was a brownish/orangish color because the paint was so thin. Same exact spot too!!!

Absolutely! I didn't even have 2500 miles on my car when I noticed several rock chips on the front end, one of which was about the size of a pencil eraser! As far as what Dodge uses on their vehicles it probably isn't the best paint on the market. Where most of your import cars use a paint such as Standox or Sikkens your American cars are probably more like PPG or DuPont. I hate to say it but even build quality of the American car these days is lacking. Take the fit and finish of say a Honda Civic or Toyota Camry versus like a Ford Focus or Chevy Impala. You can tell a world of difference. Interior, exterior styling, dependability, etc.......... I'm not knocking American car companies and saying that they make bad products, I mean look at the new Z06! It's a Lamborghini killer for at LEAST half the price. The American companies just need to pay more attention to their competitors and step it up a notch.................except for when it comes to the the SRT-4 of course!!!
The problem with American Car manufacturing is not that we cant produce a vehicle that will hold up the same or better than foreign cars is the fact that we wont. U can blame it on unions plain and simple. Look at foreign car co's Non Unionised and better products. Unions were once a necessity to protect workers rights and such...... but today are obsolete and no longer needed due to workers rights laws that are now inplace. Unions are just milking every dime they can from these companys and thus in turn to help with losses product quality drops allso due to the fact that with the unions you cant fire someone who is unproductive very easily thus you have unproductive workers on the line allso causeing a quality dump.

Just my 2cents but if America wants to lead the pack in auto manufacturing again we have to:
1) Loose the Unions
2) Offer more competive salaries and benefits.

Just those 2 things will bring in better employes bar none -- thus increasing quality.
